What Is Even Sexy Anymore? 🍒

I have this one pair of super baggy jeans that, without fail, every time I wear them, he insists, they're the sexiest thing I own. I mean, he's not wrong; I get stopped on the street. Everyone wants them. And when I wear them, I feel sexy (and yes, I'll share THE EXACT ONES below). 

But know this—he also thinks my finally getting Global Entry is sexy, and it also seems that I'm at my most attractive when I'm on time for something (alas, it's a rarity despite that). And none of this is meant to say that traditional "sexy" (think the little black dress or, even better, that little black dress on the floor) is dead—it's just that it's a lot more subjective and expansive than perhaps we’ve thought.

To continue the theme, I had a laundry list of highly adult, decidedly unsexy things to do this week, including the aforementioned global entry appointment, a dental cleaning, and a mammogram. As I was being questioned, squashed, prodded, and poked, I wondered, what is even sexy anymore? This can't possibly be it. Or is it? Is taking care of business, in fact, sexy? 

A simple search on the World Wide Web produces the one dimensional definition of sexy: "generally attractive or interesting, exciting."

A long list of alternatives include sultry, sensual, desirable, slinky(!!), foxy, fleshly, bodacious, and, my personal favorite, toothsome, whatever that means. Is it someone who smiles a lot? A very toothy hottie? I don't know. Anyways, sexy is a daily driver. It’s a word we use to describe all sorts of things, from people to purses. It represents something we "want" or are drawn to, much like sex. 

But sexy is not about sex (though that's fun, too). Sexy comes from
