Georgii Rachinsky is a self-taught painter currently based in Novi Sad, Serbia. Before turning to visual art, he pursued an academic career in philosophy and religious studies, earning a PhD while researching ideology, religion, and political thought. It was during the final years of his doctoral work that painting unexpectedly entered his life. What began as simple digital collages made to escape the monotony of academic writing gradually evolved into an obsession with light, shadow, and atmospheric figurative painting.
His work occupies the territory between magical realism, contemporary surrealism, and dark figurative art. It explores liminal psychological states - moments suspended between life and death, beauty and decay, desire and loss. Perfection, fundamentally unachievable in mortal life, appears on the canvas as a moment arrested in time. Yet it is always accompanied by ‘memento mori’ imagery, which underscores its connection to transcendence.
That is also the reason why he is more focused on painting than on composing music, to which - unlike visual art - he has been dedicated since childhood. Following Schopenhauer, he understands music as the most direct expression of the Blind Will: an endless movement of longing, desire, and absence. Painting, by contrast, suspends that movement. It allows the unattainable to appear as complete and becomes an act of anamnesis - in the Platonic and even Gnostic sense. In such a way, painting has become his philosophical answer to what music could not resolve.
Beyond that, he is interested in the philosophical consequences of the decline of postmodernism and the emergence of metamodern thought. His current research explores the possibility of restoring beauty as a fundamental component of artistic meaning rather than treating aesthetics as merely decorative or secondary to concept.
Alongside his artistic practice, he is an entrepreneur and the founder of an IT recruitment company. This parallel career allows him to remain financially independent and to approach painting without the pressure to adapt his work to market expectations.
