It always seemed to be a good idea to get a separate set of instrumental mixes made whilst mixing an album containing vocal parts. I am fairly sure the logic behind this was to enable some possible synch opportunity, whereby a short segment of your vocal free music might end up on some advert, film or ident somewhere, which might net you a fee or at least a payout at some point. The synch business does appear to be much like playing the lottery, your chances are incredibly small, although much like the lottery, it does happen to someone….anyone else remember the enormous pointing finger with the “It Could be You” slogan for the UK National Lottery some years back?
