I think it’ll make for a nice souvenir release to mark our debut shows, as we’ll be including all the material on the CD in the live set.
Personnel is as per the previously announced line up, ie. yours truly on fretless bass, John Wesley on vocals and guitar, Lef on keys and vocals and Alessandro Vagnoni on drums and backing vocals. We’ve had a lot of fun putting this together and the chemistry should be clearly evident.
The original purpose of the band was and remains very much a live thing and we never really had the intention to re-record the old Porcupine Tree material, instead we simply decided, that ahead of the shows, people needed to hear what we sound like. Hence we have re-recorded parts of the live set, and released a couple of the tracks digitally already.
For Voyage 35 to thrive, it has to allow the participants to give the material it’s own flavour, character and edge. I think the music allows this, and it always did. So far, I’m confident we are sticking to the mission statement to honour and elevate the originals whilst putting own stamp on things, and simultaneously respecting the original source material. I hope that’s clear already from the previously released tracks, and also from the upcoming Syd Barrett song we’ve contributed to Clowns and Jugglers, although it’s unlikely anyone will hear the Voyage 35 version of Apples and Oranges until the album release in October.
