Where Crypto Capital Flows Meet Market Intelligence.

🗓️ Tuesday, August 18, 2026 | Est. read time: 7 minutes

  • Bitcoin closed near $62.8K on Sunday, down roughly 3% w/w, its worst week in six.

  • Spot Bitcoin ETFs bled $389.7M between Aug 10 and 14, the largest weekly outflow in six weeks.

  • July CPI printed 0.1% MoM and 3.4% YoY, in line with consensus.

  • SEC abruptly canceled its Aug 14 Regulation Crypto vote, delaying the first formal proposal.

  • Strategy sold another 1,690 BTC for $108.6M and raised $653M in fresh equity.

  • Week ahead: Trump crypto summit (Aug 19), FOMC minutes (Aug 20), Jackson Hole (Aug 27-29).

The week revealed a disconnect that will shape September. Softer July CPI and PPI landed on Wednesday and Thursday, and by the old playbook, Bitcoin should have rallied. Instead, spot Bitcoin ETFs posted their heaviest weekly withdrawal in six weeks at $389.7M, BTC lost about 3%, and the CLARITY Act, Regulation Crypto, and the tokenization exemption all stalled in the same 72-hour window. Institutional allocators are trimming risk ahead of Jackson Hole, not chasing rate-cut trades on the print.

Here’s what crypto investors should understand about the week ahead…

Wait for the results next week.

👉 Last week’s result: Option 3 - Regulatory (The CLARITY Act) led the POLL with 43.75% of the votes.

ETH held up best in the majors this week, closing near $1,874 on Sunday. Cooling inflation data and thinner selling in ETH ETFs kept the pullback shallow relative to the rest of the top four.

XRP slipped to $0.99, losing the $1.00 handle as CLARITY Act cloture odds slid to 19% and XRP ETF weekly inflows registered a modest $2.25M.

Softer CPI and PPI failed to spark a rally as ETF outflows resumed and the SEC delayed its Regulation Crypto vote, extending the institutional risk-off tone.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $389.7M in net outflows between August 10 and August 14, the largest weekly withdrawal in six weeks per SoSoValue. Ethereum ETFs also ended the period slightly negative at $2.26M in outflows. Solana ETFs bucked the trend with $10.26M in inflows (August 10 marked the largest single-day since May).

The outflow arrived alongside benign inflation data. The CME FedWatch cut September hike odds to 42% after the CPI print, and Treasury yields fell across the curve. Yet allocators still pulled capital. Total net assets across US spot Bitcoin ETFs stood near $76.6B as of August 14.

Watch whether outflows persist through the Aug 27-29 Jackson Hole symposium. If Chair Warsh signals openness to easing, flows should reverse quickly. A second week of $200M-plus BTC outflows would confirm a broader de-risking cycle.

The BLS reported July CPI rose 0.1% MoM and 3.4% YoY, both in line with consensus. Core CPI eased to 2.5% YoY. Producer prices came in flat, with core PPI at 4.2% YoY, matching estimates.

Two consecutive soft prints strengthen the case for a September pause, easing bond yields and supporting risk assets over time.

Both readings were “in line” rather than “under.” The three FOMC dissenters from July 29 have not softened their public stance, and headline inflation remains stubbornly above the 2% target.

The SEC canceled its Aug 14 open meeting to propose Regulation Crypto, its first formal crypto-specific rulemaking. The separate tokenization innovation exemption was also delayed indefinitely.

The proposal is only deferred, not withdrawn. The CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee convenes Aug 20 and may fill the vacuum on commodities-based crypto oversight.

With CLARITY Act cloture set for Sept 15 and unlikely to hit 60 votes, both the legislative and regulatory tracks have stalled within the same fortnight.

President Trump is expected to attend a Wednesday gathering with executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Kalshi, Chainlink Labs, and a16z. SEC Chair Atkins, CFTC Chair Selig, Treasury Secretary Bessent, and Commerce Secretary Lutnick are expected to participate.

The event functions as a prelude to the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee’s first meeting Aug 20, signaling executive-branch intent to keep moving on crypto policy.

Optics without a vote. Polymarket odds for CLARITY passage in 2026 sit at 19% despite the summit.

White House Crypto Summit | Aug 19, 2026

Top-20 crypto market cap totals $2.087T, with Bitcoin representing 60.84%, Ethereum 10.88%, and USDT+USDC together near 12.2%, per CoinStats aggregated data from August 15.

Nearly three-quarters of top-20 value now sits in Bitcoin plus dollar-pegged stablecoins.

Capital is defensive, not distributing. Altcoin rallies remain narrow and idiosyncratic (Chainlink, Curve, Worldcoin) rather than broad. Until stablecoin share compresses, altseason is mechanically unlikely.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh delivers his first Jackson Hole address on Aug 27-29 after July 29’s 9-3 hold. Traders are looking for a clean signal on the September FOMC meeting.

Two soft inflation prints and a negative 23K July payroll give Warsh cover for a dovish tilt. Crypto has historically front-run Fed pivots by two to six weeks.

Warsh has reduced Fed forward guidance since taking the chair, and the three hawkish dissenters remain vocal. A measured stance could trigger a sell-the-news reaction.

Jackson Hole in Focus | Aug 27-29, 2026

US spot Solana ETFs pulled in $10.26M last week, while Bitcoin and Ethereum funds bled. Cumulative SOL ETF net inflows stood at $1.16 billion as of August 14.

Solana’s Aug 17 mainnet upgrade cuts slot times toward 350 milliseconds as the first step. Additional Solana ETF filings are expected, and tokenized-equity share on Solana continues to build fundamental usage.

Solana Company reported a Q2 loss of $30.3M on SOL write-downs. If BTC breaks $60K, correlation is likely to drag SOL with it despite the inflow story.

Solana ETFs Quietly Diverge | Cumulative Inflows Approach $1.16B

When Bitcoin ETFs bleed while Solana, XRP, and HYPE ETFs collect, the signal is rotation, not exit. Three of the six crypto ETF categories tracked by SoSoValue took inflows for the week ended August 14, even as the U.S. dollar hovered near recent lows.

The pattern for serious investors: when BTC dominates outflows during a mixed print, allocators are usually rebalancing toward smaller pockets of asymmetry, not liquidating crypto exposure. Track SoSoValue’s weekly category snapshot rather than the headline BTC number alone.

  • Cboe BZX filed to list 3x leveraged Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, adding leverage into a crowded long book.

  • Strategy sold another 1,690 BTC for $108.6M, its fourth 2026 disposal.

  • Coldcard exploit total climbed to 1,816 BTC (about $116M) drained from over 5,200 addresses.

  • Circle’s Arc mainnet remains on track for a Sept 16 launch with 11 founding validators.

  • Riot Bitcoin mining platform signed a 20-year $9.1B lease at its Rockdale campus with a leading frontier AI lab.

Mid-August delivered a rare setup: soft inflation, softer labor, and softer regulation, yet risk assets did not rally. That signals allocators are waiting for Jackson Hole, not fading it. If Chair Warsh acknowledges the labor deterioration, September repricing arrives before the FOMC meets.

The next fortnight tests whether Warsh channels a pivot or holds the line, and whether the CLARITY Act clears its September window before the midterm cycle closes it.
