Today we are featuring Matthew Puccini, director of the short film Callback. Since screening at Coffeehouse Cinema Vol. 4, Callback has resonated with its audience for its queer representation and focus on relationship rivalries.
In the feature below, Matt discusses the themes of jealousy and mirror versions and how that helped shape the story of Callback.

Tell us about your film.
Callback is a dark comedy about actor-boyfriends, played by Justin H Min and Michael Hsu Rosen, whose relationship disintegrates into competition over the course of an evening.
What would you say are the biggest themes your project wrestles with? What made this the project to work through those themes?
It’s about the ways in which our partners can sometimes function as our mirrors, particularly in queer relationships. And it’s about jealousy and class, themes I’ve been trying to explore for a while. I think Callback felt like the right container because it’s not taking itself too seriously.
