There is a unique exhaustion that accompanies dealing with a coercive co-parent. It is not simply the fatigue of repeated disagreements or the logistical challenges of raising a child across two households. It is the cumulative weight of feeling psychologically pulled into interactions that seem impossible to resolve. Many parents describe the experience as though they are running on a treadmill: constantly expending energy, yet never moving forward.
What often goes unrecognized is that this exhaustion is not solely the result of conflict itself. Rather, it is the result of becoming caught in a psychological loop; a recurring pattern of emotional activation, defensive communication, and continued engagement that ultimately serves the conflict rather than resolving it. The issues may change from week to week, but the cycle remains remarkably consistent.
