With props to this article this topic jumped up this morning as something to think about. AGAIN! z/OS has a built in security layer that does very detailed authorization checks on pretty much everything: files, programs, transactions, etc. Linux/BSD has some broad protections. Beyond that it is up to your applications where that kind of security is needed.

Symas did a RACF to LDAP authorization translation. That COULD turn OpenLDAP into a Policy Data Base under a Policy Decision Point program. Or it could be used that way by other applications with attack surfaces.
