Design Board Pinnings: Vol. 2

July always feels like a month where inspiration starts coming at me from every direction. I just love summer… my creative juices really get flowing

A few weeks ago I toured the Studio McGee home during the Utah Valley Parade of Homes, and I couldn’t stop thinking about one room in particular. It wasn’t necessarily the biggest or most elaborate. It was the feeling.

A fully tented room.

It reminded me how much I love spaces that aren’t afraid to have big personality. Rooms that feel layered, tailored, and a little unexpected.

Ever since, I’ve noticed the same themes popping up everywhere. While sourcing for a project in Bend, I found myself pulling patterned stair runners instead of solids. And at the Sixth Street Bungalow house I’ve chosen a striped wallpaper from the Whitney McGregor collection for Spoonflower.

Even our furniture selections lately have been balancing traditional architecture with cleaner, more modern silhouettes. I’ve always taken notes from artist William McClure’s interiors. I just love how he balances traditional architecture with modern elements throughout… whether through his art, furniture profiles or accents.

When that starts happening, I know it’s not a coincidence.

It’s usually a sign that our design perspective is evolving.

This month, I kept seeing five ideas show up over and over again after our team did our monthly inspo download:

• the return of tented rooms, and some of our favorite stripe fabrics

• natural fiber rugs with more character,

• modern pieces that give traditional homes an edge,

• and the quiet Americana details that make a home feel collected rather than decorated.
