Hi CLiuAnonners! I am really looking forward to our first seminar of the year, which focuses on two of Walter Benjamin's essays. We discussed these two essays at the end of the academic year in the spring, and we will continue a general discussion of Benjamin as a bridge to the new seminar year. We will also discuss the issues of the day in a truthful, thoughtful and reflective manner. It is hard to avoid thinking about the passing of Jason Arday. I hope to provide some context for how things could have gone so wrong in academia. There is a lot of finger pointing and armchair diagnoses going on. We will avoid hot takes and give ourselves some time to grieve for this man and the institutions that used him and continue to use him.
