I was born in the last year of the 20th century in Mohonpur, a village on the bank of the Meghna River in the Chandpur district of Bangladesh. I spent my childhood in the beautiful village running around the paddy field and playing with my friends. When I was six years old, I told everyone I wanted to work in a shoe factory when I grew up. Everyone used to laugh at me, but my parents were worried.
My father lived in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh for his job. My mother stayed in the village with me and had an NGO job teaching adult villagers. But she eventually decided to move to the capital with my father to ensure the best possible education for me. I started my school years in Dhaka and later moved to Chittagong due to my father’s job assignment. I chose to study science and subsequently completed my graduation in the mother of engineering i.e. Mechanical Engineering.
When I started to understand the world around me, I noticed there are several global challenges humanity is facing. The world is divided by borders and challenges like war, inequality, poverty, pandemics, and climate change are affecting all of our lives. I wanted to do ‘something’ about these problems. But soon I realized I could not solve all the problems in my single life. So, I wanted to take on a single challenge that I believe is most important to me and the people affected by it.
Climate change is the challenge I wanted to understand and figure out my role in solving that. This problem doesn't have any borders and my country is one of the most vulnerable in this crisis. When I look back to my childhood, I can recall the days of flooding, riverbank erosion, and cyclones affecting my community in the village. When I reflect on my educational journey from school to university, I can connect the dots to understand why I care about this problem. I see myself doing projects like ecofriendly cities for science fairs, participating in debates on environmental issues, developing business ideas to commercialize rooftop farming, supporting environmental startups, and educating youth on climate change.
I have put different hats on my head starting from coordinating the class to leadership roles in several organizations. Moreover, I had the chance to interact with thousands of youths in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Kenya. Based on my understanding of the world and the people, I believe we need systematic change to tackle the climate crisis. We need a shift in our mindset from traditional leadership to a new kind of leadership. I like to define the new leadership as “green leadership. A leadership which puts the interest of people and the planet as the priority over anything. As we pass through the unprecedented planetary crisis due to climate change, we need green leaders who take climate action fast and at a scale.
I want to bring a systematic change through Green Lead; an organization to develop green leaders and promote the practice of green leadership. I also acknowledge the necessity for leverage to help green leaders accelerate climate action. So I want to leverage my engineering knowledge and build Climate Intelligent Technologies (CIT) as an organization to develop and deploy green technologies.
I want to live with the purpose of helping people in climate crisis to live their best possible lives through green leadership and technologies. I want to build both organizations as sustainable entities to keep serving humanity after my existence on this beautiful earth.
