In case you are new to Climate Steps (CSteps), we have been a 501(c)(3) nonprofit running for the past five years, building a powerful online hub of climate actions for individuals and the resources to take those actions. We also have a great Facebook forum for discussion and mentorship. We are science-based: we focus on actually effective actions, and we are impactful.
CSteps is now tying in data from multiple partners so that users can find action opportunities directly in the CSteps hub and/or sign up for an action! This bi-monthly newsletter will let you know about some of the impacts we are having, new collaborations as they come along, and thus new Resources, plus our latest Articles, Step overviews, and Tools.

What a great spring and summer of 2025! Five of our latest articles are by our five amazing spring/summer interns who, with the help of their scientific mentors (all gold stars ⭐), researched and provided articles on how to communicate about climate, on building design, on gaining LEED professional certification for classrooms, about fighting our inherent psychology for buying stuff, and about why it’s important to plant trees in urban areas.
Kudos to: Leah Zahniser, Nilgun Duman, Catie Carter, Jordyn Hazard, and Dexter Zapf! Two masters graduates and three undergrads - all very cool folks with great questions.

Welcome to Annie Button! Annie, a freelance writer on sustainable living and marketing trends in the UK, has officially joined the ranks of the Climate Steps writers. Here’s her second article with us: How the Slow Tech Movement can Build a Sustainable Future.
And our in-house author, educator Mark Stewart, makes a key point: we need a place to ground ourselves, to share our experiences and skills with each other. Community Placemaking is a new name for something for something very old: neighborhood places for supporting communication and local culture. When communities create places to be together, they become more resilient against future climate shock.

Our permanent overview pages offer a variety of Steps, Resources, and Tools. Here’s what we’ve recently added/updated:
A new Resource page, ORGANIZATIONS, is an example of data we directly pull in live from partners. Earth Hero manages a list of climate action organizations (global), and, together, we built this CSteps page so people can find the list, at least some of it: we highlight one-third of the organizations on CSteps, but we provide an easy link for users to find more on the EH website.
The goal is for inspired users to be able to quickly join an action organization and start taking action. Test it out!
Other recent Resourcespages include a list of great News sources (via journalist Chris Schneidmiller), and our Presentations page - which will soon include more slides/templates for folks to use. Next up - a Citizen Science opportunities page!
Coming Spring 2026! you may have noticed near the Search button a new Tool 🚧under construction🚧: the Climate Coach, a way you can search for specific climate steps that meet your situation (e.g., renter v. homeowner), your motivations, and even whether you want to learn new skills.

Earth Hero and Climate Steps founded our respective organizations in 2019/2020 on different media platforms (initially, as an Apple app and on Wordpress.com, respectively) but with similar goals of serving specific climate steps to individuals.) We officially partnered in 2021 to share resources, and, together, we curate and share science-based information - using analogous metadata - on how people every day can fight climate change and increase climate resilience. Many a volunteer in each organization have helped on projects with the other.
We have focused especially on jointly building EH’s climate action database into an open, multi-partner/contributory, fact-based, curated, global database – filterable by impact, cost, region, and more.
And in a great step this year, CSteps tech volunteer/contractor Chase Nairn-Howard and several folks at EH built web services to make this climate actions database available for new partners to serve to their users. Chase was the first to create and test one out: you can now find specific climate actions through CSteps’ basic Search, and you can soon find more through the upcoming CSteps Coach.
