Dear friends,
2026 is on the horizon and I’m reflecting. I hope everyone had a lovely solstice and will have a restful holiday.
For the very first time in my life I think I have enjoyed entering the cold season. I am not longing for the warm summer days. It is strange. Maybe a form of acceptance that I live in England where most of the year is a little cloudy and moist.
I can hear the bird songs, and the breathing of the sea. It seems enough to bring me joy when the days are cold. Yesterday was clear, still, and the light was so soft. It looked as if the sea was bathing in some kind of milky halo. We put up fairy lights in the flat and it is making a tremendous difference.
This year overall has been a year of joy and dreams. I performed at the Turner Contemporary for the first time in January, for a special sensory experience. I also got to play some cosmic tunes for my dear friend Mélanie King and the opening of her solo exhibition at Salon in Margate.
But mostly this year has revolved around planning a long trip to Japan which included an art residency, a concert, and visiting the island of Yakushima. So many dreams in one journey.
I was so delighted to play at Salo Oiso - a cute cafe, record shop and recording studio an hour from Tokyo. People take music very seriously in Japan. I felt so loved and taken care of.
And I had the most magical time at Studio Kura, doing a 4-week residency in the countryside of Itoshima, near Fukuoka. A moment where time stopped and I could do only what I enjoy the most - field recording, printing, experimenting with my synth - with the goal of a group exhibition at the end of the month.
Finally, we visited the island of Yakushima with my partner, something we’ve wanted to do for such a long time. Hiking slowly, looking at the moss and shape of the century old cedar trees, feeling more and more amazed every day.
All this left me a little heartbroken when I came back to England after seven weeks of pure joy. I’m slowly adjusting back, trying to fall in love with England again.
I was also able to release two albums after my time in Japan.
