Fear

Fear, like fire, burning up any trace of being able to move or function.

Paralysis has more life in it.

When fear escalates to terror there is no hope for sanity.

I know this one.

May I take you there so that you will recognize it’s grip?

You can grab each finger one at a time and uncurl them

So you can breathe again.

It might only be short gasps in the beginning.

It will help to get you back to normal.

It’s a new normal because you can never be the same.

Like being pushed off a tall building.

No matter how you land or who, or what, catches you

You will never be the same.

How could you be?

The most fear to take my body hostage was when I willingly

Participated in a personal growth workshop.

My therapist had gently recommended it.

I could see she had way more trust in me than I had in myself.

Turning our car keys in to a basket upon arrival,

Keeping us from leaving,

Started the fear temperature gauge rising.

My stomach always knows to put out a warning

When fear is about to take over the scene

Even if I can’t see anything around.

Something perceived is lurking.

Like a mighty slithering powerful python.

Fear coils around you.

Strangling all of your sensible life-saving senses

Until fear becomes terror

And death is a prayer

And run is not an option.
