Still a warrior, now also a badass.

I’m back from my reunion and to answer the burning question on all your minds: “Did she bring the right clothes?” No, reader, sadly I did not. But it was all good and I will share all the details next week.

I thought I’d be doing that this week—but the whirl of travel, a few doctor’s appointments and prepping for my classes to begin this week has demanded more time and energy than I had allotted for. I hope you can hold your breath for the reunion report a little longer. (But please don’t hold your breath…we’re 68—there were no hook ups or drama—at least not at the event I attended!)

I decided to share the essay I wrote five years ago, during the August when we discovered Annie’s diagnosis of breast cancer. Because first of all, I can’t believe it was five years ago. But it also reminded me how strong she was and how we rallied around her and each other during that time. The only update to that previous post is that I now have had a cancer diagnosis, too, in addition to my daughter, mother and sister. (Hey, Universe? Wanna back off for a minute?)

In the essay I noted the bracelet I began wearing at the time—it said “Warrior” and I felt a little silly wearing it, because honestly…me? A warrior? But after the last five years, and with Annie as my example, yeah…I’m a warrior. We were all warriors—and not in the combatant sense, but the champion sense. We met all the challenges with grace and humor and love and I will always believe that is the superpower of my family. Thank goodness.

See you all next week. Please feel free to reach out or comment or share. I appreciate your being here sharing all this with me. xo

(Many of you are supporting me in this endeavor and I appreciate it more than you know.) And then--I missed a week. By Tuesday evening, I wa…
