A slow walk through Osaka in the hour before sunrise — an empty Midosuji, shutters down across Semba, the river black under Yodoyabashi — with music and on-screen captions telling the story of each street and building along the way.

The walk starts at Honmachi just after four in the morning, on a Midosuji so empty that the ginkgo rows and the wide road belong to no one. Through the backstreets of Semba every shutter is down. At Yodoyabashi the river runs black beneath the bridge and the first trains have not started. The route climbs north through Nishi-Umeda, past office towers still holding the night, and reaches Osaka Station as the sky begins to pale over the tracks. It ends at Umekita, where the new lawn lies wet with dew under the great arch of Grand Green Osaka.
