Hey YOU! How ARE you? How’s your writing life?

One especially exciting update: I was recently interviewed about my DNA surprise by a senior staff writer at Wirecutter (a New York Times company). I’ll share it here as soon as it’s published!

Okay, I’m trying something new — and it’s feeling a little scary and exhilarating. I’ve been looking for cool ways to bring us TOGETHER more often, and what better way than a short, weekly meetup on Substack Live? Each Wednesday at Noon Central, I’ll go LIVE (gasp! gasp! gasp!), and we can chat about that week’s subject (see below). I’m also working on scheduling occasional guests, so stay tuned!

1st Wednesday of the month: Ask Me Anything Huddle
Let’s talk about memoir, publishing, trauma-informed approaches to writing, stuck points, building community, literary citizenship, and more. Bring your questions. If I don’t have an answer, I’ll do my best to help direct you to someone who does.

2nd

Wednesday of the month: Craft Huddle
Got a writing-related craft question? I’d love to help. Feeling stuck? Needing encouragement? Motivation? Resources? Join us!

3rd

Wednesday of the month: Grief Huddle
There aren’t enough spaces to gather and process grief, so I’m trying to be a part of the solution. Schedule some time to tend to your grief — and know that you’re not alone.

4th Wednesday of the month: News & Inspiration Huddle

This is your chance to share good news, help others celebrate their literary victories, and to find inspiration from the awesome members of our Writers’ Haven community.

5th Wednesday of the month: Live Storytelling Tips & Tricks Huddle

On the rare 5th Wednesdays (September, December, March, and June), we’ll dive into all things LIVE STORYTELLING.

Giving language and imagery to life’s most complicated moments

My six-week, in-person memoir course at Northwestern University is open to the public! You’ll learn how to shape your life experiences into a coherent, meaningful narrative while establishing a steady writing rhythm that supports real progress. We’ll explore structure, scene writing, reflection, emotional pacing, how to identify the moments that define your story, and so much more. You’ll also receive an overview of book proposals, publishing paths, and many of the resources I share with my coaching clients. This is a warm, encouraging space to begin—or return to—your memoir with intention.

This class welcomes memoirists at any stage—those exploring an idea, those already drafting, and those with prior publications seeking a space to refine their craft and reconnect with the heart of their story. We revisit foundational techniques with respect for your experience while offering new insights, emotional grounding practices, and a steady writing rhythm. If you’ve ever felt stuck, uncertain, or simply in need of community and momentum, this course meets you exactly where you are.

Just some of the awesome books we'll discuss during our 6 weeks together

Build a writing practice you’ll keep. This six-week, virtual lunchtime workshop combines short instructional segments with sustained, uninterrupted writing time—so you leave each session having written something. Each Thursday, facilitator Christine Wolf introduces a theme (from silencing your inner critic to finding your voice to writing with clarity), then offers you 30 protected minutes to write. No required homework, no critique, no pressure to share. Just show up, bring a notebook, and let the writing do the rest. The series follows a gentle arc from permission and foundation to voice and sustainability—but each session stands alone, so drop-ins are welcome. No writing experience is required.

Schedule: Thursdays, 12–1p Central

Christine Wolf and Dr. James Pennebaker discuss his pioneering research on the Expressive Writing method

Whether you’ve known periods of overwhelm, trauma, or significant difficulty, it’s important to process these experiences in healthy ways. In this course, you’ll learn the evidence-based technique of Expressive Writing to help process difficult emotions and get “unstuck.” Expressive Writing, pioneered by Dr. James Pennebaker in 1986, is a remarkably straightforward and FREE way to acknowledge your most troubling memories and create a framework of language that can help move unresolved thoughts out of your head and onto the page (or even into the air).

You don’t need an MBA. You need someone who’s been in the weeds and made it work. This full-day bootcamp is for writers, creatives, and side-hustlers asking the question: Can I actually do this? The answer is yes, and this class shows you how. We’ll dig into the real stuff: launching an LLC; demystifying bookkeeping; building a brand on a budget; marketing without losing your mind; and networking in a way that actually feels like you. You’ll leave with a clearer picture of your business, practical next steps, and the reassurance that figuring it out on the fly is part of the process, not a sign you’re doing it wrong. Your instructor, Christine Wolf, has launched two LLCs, built a thriving Substack newsletter, and worn every hat a small business owner wears. This is the class she wishes she’d taken.Access – Open to the public
