WELCOME to my Substack!
INTRODUCTION —— I am an illustrator and graphic designer by trade (by way of being a paramedic, but that’s another story). I began writing poetry in early 2025 as a way to blow off creative steam and take my mind off the political tumult pervading the United States every minute of every day, and the poems just kind of kept coming… and they’ve landed here.
As a visual artist, there are many thoughts and feelings that, for me, can only be captured and expressed through art. My first collection, The Anatomy of a Modern Volcano (or AMV), contains 33 free-verse poems and 22 abstract illustrations, plus the cover art. I will be posting the writing alone, full artwork alone, details of artwork, 2-page spreads of poetry and art, and thoughts about the creative process along with inspiration behind some of the poems.
I am currently working on my second collection, Broken Land, and will be sharing that work as well, so stay tuned!
I intentionally chose Substack as the place to share this work because the opportunities for dialogue between readers and creators add tremendous value to the process of writing and making art. I hope that, even though the words and pictures I share are coming from me, that readers can find a way to connect with and benefit from it by way of their own unique life experiences. So, I would be thrilled if we could start some conversations!
