A few of my favorite things about the Granite State

I was born and raised in Manchester, and I’ve spent my entire life right here in New Hampshire.

From bussing tables at my family restaurant to graduating from Central High School, this state has always been my home.

Here are 10 things that always remind me why we’re so lucky to live in the Granite State:

1. Hiking Trails & Mountains: Spending a day on the trails with friends and family is a rite of passage in New Hampshire. It can be a full-day grind, but taking in those views from an open ridge on a clear afternoon makes every step worth it.

2. Our Beautiful Lakes & Ponds: Whether you’re renting a kayak for a quiet paddle along the shoreline or catching a boat tour, there’s nothing like being out on the water on a warm summer day.

3. The Seacoast: Summer in New Hampshire isn’t complete without a trip to the beach, seafood and an ice cream cone, a stroll on the boardwalk, or a swim in that refreshing Atlantic water.

4. Chicken Tenders: Most folks outside New Hampshire don’t know that Manchester is the birthplace of the chicken tender – we’ve even been declared the Chicken Tender Capital of the World!

5. Fall Foliage Season: There’s nothing quite like autumn in New Hampshire when the leaves turn, people travel from far and wide to drive the Kancamagus Highway, and the crisp air settles in across the state.

6. Mount Washington: Reaching the summit of Mount Washington – whether hiking, by car, or Cog Railway – is something every Granite Stater should do at least once. On a clear day, you can look out across five states (and into Canada!)

7. Fisher Cats Games: A summer night at the ballpark in Manchester with friends and family is peak New Hampshire.

8. Town Meeting Day & Our First-in-the-Nation Primary: Granite Staters take civic life seriously here. From town meetings to our presidential primary, New Hampshire politics isn’t done on TV screens – it’s done face-to-face.

9. A Strong Sense of Community: Whether it’s over coffee or at a neighborhood house party, sitting down to listen to what is on the minds of Granite Staters is the best part of public service.

10. Our Independent Spirit: Granite Staters are proudly independent, but we always look out for one another and take pride in our own communities. That’s what keeps our state strong, self-reliant, and close-knit.

What makes our state truly unique isn’t just the landscape – it’s how closely tied together we all are.
