Hey everyone, Chris here.
Analysts at Sabato’s Crystal Ball just announced a critical update in the race for the Senate: New Hampshire now sits in a tighter, more competitive rating category than any other Democratic-held seat in the country.
I don’t put very much stock in national headlines – pundits don’t vote, Granite Staters do. But I wanted to share this with you because it shows just how much our race matters on the Senate map.
The political pundits made it clear why this race is a dead heat, and it’s something we’ve known here in New Hampshire all along: John Sununu.
Sununu brings a famous last name and statewide brand recognition, giving national Republicans the exact high-profile candidate they want in a swing state. He and his allies saw an opportunity in this open seat long before the pundits caught on, and they are already laying the groundwork to flood our airwaves.
Outside dark money groups and Koch-backed super PACs have already started spending over $25 million across our media markets to run non-stop attack ads into living rooms across New Hampshire.
And it’s working: Polling right now shows us separated by just one single point.
Millions in dark money goes a long way here in New Hampshire. If national observers assume this is a safe blue seat and look the other way, we risk letting outside groups define this race on their terms.
We don’t need to match corporate super PACs dollar-for-dollar, but we do need the resources to keep our field organizers on the ground in all ten counties, talk directly to independent voters, and make sure our message is heard above the noise.
Thank you for standing with me and for everything you do for New Hampshire.
— Chris
