Chriselle Lim · Off the Grid

Another week has flown by. Im currently on my flight to New York as I'll be spending a few days on some major projects I can’t quite share yet! I dont know about you, but this Summer is moving at lightning speed. Not sure if I love it or hate it. Secretly super excited for Fall dressing..all my fashion girlies know that Fall is our season! So at the end of this one, ive added my July Favorites- the things I loved, read, watched, made, and kept coming back to. By next Sunday it’ll be a new month, so I wanted to share with you before we head into August! I’ll on a plane to New York once you guys receive this

A little housekeeping: Fit Preps are free right now. Starting August, they move behind the paywall- paid subscribers only. So if this is becoming your Sunday ritual (and I have a feeling it is), now’s the moment to subscribe! :)

Off The Grid is where I keep the real stuff, the personal essays, the marriage + divorce series that started with 5 things I regret before my wedding, the behind-the-scenes of building and selling Phlur, The supplement + peptide deep dives, and now, every Sunday Fit Prep.

It’s [$6/month], and I promise it earns every penny. Subscribe below!

With that said, here’s this week’s FIT PREP!

Where I’m going: I will be in New York taking on some really big meetings. I wanted to look professional but still with my casual cool cali girl edge. I swear I wear these pants way too much- one of my best purchases!

The look:

  • Styling note: Ive been introducing subtle hints of color and bold accents. I like to work with whatever color im already wearing. For example this shirt has a hint of light blue and my denim is a light blue. So for my purse I added a bold Klein Blue to give it that extra punch. Sticking within the color family but of different intensities.

Where I’m going: I have a big big big shoot. One of my dream jobs- I can’t say what it is. They did ask me to come in an outfit that I love and represents me. I wanted to wear something that was strong yet feminine. Ive had this dress and just so excited to finally wear it. It’s structural but is in the prettiest baby pink color.

The look:

  • Styling note: My favorite combo is ballet flats with dresses. ive replaced my heels with ballet flats whenever I can. It instantly gives it more of a a classic and chic vibe.

Where I’m going: A few more meetings in the city and meeting up with some friends in the evening.

The look:

Styling note: I love a good hot shorts, but sometimes it can feel like im just overexposing my legs and my booty. So I always wear an oversized button up or top that is longer than the hot shorts. This Phobe Philo top is perfect because the back is longer than the front and cover just in the right area.

Where I’m going: Im hosting a little brunch back in LA. Giving vacation vibes but with a LA twist to it.

The look:

Styling note: I love pairing more of my vacation silks and dressier tops with a pair of boyfriend jeans. The juxtaposition gives it the right balance I crave for in each outfit. Not too dressy, not too casual, that perfect in between.

Where I’m going: Meetings, coffee date, Dinner with the fam at the beach

The look:

  • Styling note: Wear your oversized white blouse as a dress ( and wear a pair of micro shorts underneath)

And that’s this week’s Fit Prep.

Same rule as always: take what works, leave what doesn’t. This is a skeleton, not a rulebook. Swap the heel for a flat. Skip the blazer if it’s ninety degrees out. Wear Thursday’s look on a Monday if that’s the day you need it. The whole point is that you already made the decision, so let it work for you.

If you know someone who’s still standing in front of their closet at 7am negotiating with themselves, send them here.

BEAUTY

  • Aunu Manuka Essence & moisturizer (a friend of mine told me about this brand. I never heard of them until recently, and she was telling me how it has been transformative for her skin. ive been using their products almost exclusively this past month and well on my way to emptying them out because its that good.)

  • Irene Forte Eye Cream - Another newer brand that I have recently discovered and this eye cream is so rich and nourishing. really good for my crepey under eyes.

  • Rhode Highlight Milk - really love wearing this stuff with no makeup and just a touch of concealer. gives my skin that pearly glow.

  • Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Blush - I will not stop talking about this blush. It is my go to everyday blush. It gives your skin that wet dewy look. It’s absolutely the most gorgeous blush I have ever tried.

  • Chanel Rouge Coco Flash - The most hydrating lip with the most stunning color. I wear “Immediat” and “boy”

  • Merit Clean Volume Volumizing Tubing Mascara- Most tubing mascaras are a bit too heavy for my thin asian baby lashes but this one is different. It’s light enough but gives it the volume it needs and perks them right up! I was so pleasantly surprised with this mascara. It has been my go to since I got my hands on it.

  • SkinCeuticals SPF50 - as you guys know I love my SkinBetter Science SPF70 but sometimes when I want something lighter and melts into the skin better I go with SkinCeuticals SPF50. It works really nicely with makeup as well.

  • Dr Rejuall Advanced PDRN Cream - I carry this guy everywhere with me. It’s the most popular Korean pharmacy brand. It’s a gel like texture and really hydrates the skin and leaves a lasting bounce to it. Ive been using this product for over a year now and it’s still one of my go tos.

  • Flamingo Estate Exfoliating Peppermint Soap - I go to bed thinking about my showers because of this guy. There is something so satisfying and elevating having this in my shower. it’s a nice scrub but also the smell is just divine, and that peppermint scent is so strong! Ive never been huge on body bars but this one is different. I will be repurchasing this one as we just finished ours!

  • Phlur Father Figure, Cherry Stem & a scent that is launching in a few weeks. I cannot share what this scent is but it has depth, layers, textures, and it is so soulful and beautiful. IT’S ABSOLUTELY F*CKIN STUNNING (sorry for the all caps and cursing but Im extremely enthusiastic and obsessed with this one.

FASHION

  • THE CHRISELLE TEE - I created a Tee with Splendid. It has been my go to t shirt brand for the longest time as they have the softest bamboo blend fabric im obsessed with. I created 4 styles with them and it all comes with a detachable sheer chiffon scarf. it’s really one of the chicest most elevated Tees ive come across. Im super proud of how it came out and I cannot stop wearing them!

  • Hunting Season Necklace - This pendant necklace adds a nice organic touch to any look. ive been wearing it nonstop

  • Celine Jeans - My celine jeans have been on rotation and I wish I could tell you they were not worth the money, but unfortunately they were ABSOLUTELY worth every penny. as I quite literally wear them every other day. I have yet to come across a pair that has the perfect slouch that doesn’t drag at the end!

  • Bottega Cabat Bag - This one was definitely a splurge for me, but it’s such an iconic bag that goes with everything. ive worn it everyday since I got it. It’s such a great everyday bag, travel bag, mom bag. Colette calls it my Snack bag because I can pack so many snacks in this bag for them. haha

  • Issey Miyake Pleats Please Collection - This dress has been my go to dress on a hot summer day.

BOOKS & FILM

  • American Symphony - This is an older film/documentary, but I was quite moved by it. The duality of pain and joy. The ability to live two contrasting lives in one. It was so beautifully filmed and I was so emotionally moved by the strength of both characters.

  • Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad - After watching American Symphony I went down a rabbit hole and became obsessed with Suleika. Her strength and quiet confidence was so admirable and I discovered her books. Between Two Kingdoms helped me understand her story. She had an aggressive form of leukemia at age 22. She shared her life going in and out of treatments and how she ultimately went on a 100-day road trip across America to figure out how to live again. It was a beautiful read and it left me feeling so hopeful.

  • America Hagwon by Min Jin Lee - this is not out yet and I was lucky enough to be sent a copy from Min Jin. I spent almost the entire month reading this book and im almost done!!! WOW.. an absolute masterpiece. I cannot tell you how much I could relate to some of the characters in this book given that it takes place in the 90s in Korea - the time I moved to Korea as a Korean American. All the characters felt like I knew them in some past life. Make sure to Pre order it!

RECIPES

We made SO many new recipes as we spent most of our time at home. which was such a treat. Everything from Peach crumble desserts, to the most perfect avocado toast, to eggplants and couscous bowls, spicy tofu dish, vegetarian spaghetti, matcha cookies, Almond cookies, etc. Im very lucky as my fiancé Sebastian is an EXCELLENT cook. He’s vegetarian so we primarily eat veggie and dairy free dishes. If you guys want me to share some of his recipes here I can do so!

Don’t forget to subscribe and become a paid member as I have a really really special post thats coming out this Wednesday thats only for my paid community. its something ive never done and quite excited and nervous about it!
