It’s officially mid-August, and I’m coming off one of the biggest weeks we’ve had at work - one of our biggest launches yet… while also juggling kids home with zero camps and step-kids who just landed for the summer. Work, play, chaos, memories. That’s been the whole game this week.
So here are 10 Things that happened this week- a bit of everything: what I did, bought, ate, wore. All over the place, in the best way.
1. New bangs, new layers.
I used to be a blunt-cut purist. Now I’m all in on the layer - effortlessly undone, more shape, more lightness (my hair is thick, it needs the help). Chris McMillan is the only person I trust for that tres chic, French-girl-who-didn’t-try look. He’s officially on my LA Guide - full guide of where I eat and shop is HERE.
2. I wore the same outfit for 4 days straight.
I used to stress about never repeating a fit. Now? I’m having way too much fun remixing the same pieces. My Celine jeans and the massive belt buckle became my whole personality this week it was the theme for the Vanilla Canyon campaign, so I kept it rolling through a week of deliveries to friends and the PHLUR community.
3. VANILLA CANYON launched and it’s one of our biggest yet.
We switched it up this time: personal deliveries instead of the usual rollout. I spent the week driving all over LA in a vintage Mercedes, hand-delivering our newest EDP to friends and PHLUR fans. It took days, it was a lot and it was worth every mile. This scent might be our strongest one yet, literally and figuratively. Read how I scaled the business HERE.
4. I did not need another blazer. I bought another blazer.
I’m a sucker for a good blazer, a bigger sucker for anything Phoebe Philo. Saw it, thought “oh she’s cute.” Tried it on, nearly cried - that cinched waist, that ribbed knit panel, ugh. Did I need it? No. Will I wear the hell out of her? Obviously.
5. Rufus Du Sol healed something in me.
Their music gets me every time, but honestly it was just the act of going out and dancing that did it. To every busy mama out there: book the concert, the rave, the club -whatever gets you moving. It might work better than therapy.
6. Celine Rodeo Drive is open, and she’s gorgeous.
Fully in my Celine-under-Michael-Rider era - effortless, cool, not too serious, room to play with color. Walked away with black/grey boyfriend jeans (a new rotation for my daily Celine jeans habit), plus red heels and a pair of fun flats.
7. Finally cracked open Yesteryear.
I Had Yesteryear since it launched but only just started it 2 days ago. I’d heard every hot take before opening it, so I wasn’t sure where I’d land , but I’m genuinely entertained, laughing out loud in places. As someone who does this whole “influencer” thing, some of it hits close to home, even exaggerated through her trad-wife lens (I have thoughts). So far, a great escape.
8. Matcha cookies, again.
Colette’s favorite snack and we make these almost once a week. This is the Matcha Cookie Recipe we go by but we tweaked our recipe and im too lazy to write it out but instead of sugar we use agave syrup and brown sugar. We also bake it in a muffin tin instead so it comes out more like a muffin, 7 minutes exactly for that gooey center, finished with flaky sea salt on top.
9. Puppy Yoga & Pottery
Remember my last post I talked about HERE on my summer bucket list and wanting to do more activities with the kids as I felt like Summer just flew by us. Well we started chipping away with some of those activities. The girls really wanted to do Puppy yoga ( I didn’t even know it was a thing) but we found a place in Venice Beach called Yoga with Puppies and it was about 15 mins of yoga and 30 mins of playing with puppies.
We’ve also been coming to this place called MOLA in LA for private pottery class. The kids love it. This time we were on the wheel and everyone made their own mugs, plates, bowls, and I made a ring holder. It’s one of my favorite activities to do with the whole family. Highly recommend
10. Marry yourself first.
Buy the ring. I started this tradition on my divorce anniversary with a watch, then upgraded to a diamond ring in Paris and I stand by it: marry yourself before you commit to anyone else, because you’re the relationship you’re in until the end. Latest addition: a Fie Isolde ring for my pinky ring and I can’t stop looking at it. Fie built her business from scratch, bootstrapped, every piece hand-carved from wax with a technique built around each individual stone … nothing overfinished, you can feel the hand behind it. Obsessed with her and everything she makes.
___________
Getting ready for our annual summer trip to Costa Rica - doing my best not to buy anything new and instead reworking old summer pieces from my closet. Feels like a fun challenge honestly.
Also this week’s paid subscriber piece is a big one: my 5 biggest beauty regrets. Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it.
And to everyone here on Off The Grid - thank you. This platform and this community pushed me to actually say the things I used to just keep in my head. I don’t take that for granted. I wanted to always leave a challenge with you as we never in on a new week. Obviously not mandatory to do but hope this can inspire you to try something new.
THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: Read 30 minutes before bed.
I get asked all the time how I finish a book a week and honestly, it’s just consistency. Even a few minutes a night adds up. Instead of doom-scrolling, keep a book on your nightstand and give it 30 minutes before lights out.
Pick something you’re genuinely into - or start Yesteryear with me. I don’t have an official book club, but this could be a fun one to do together. I only started it two days ago myself, so we’d basically be at the same page.
Xo, Chriselle
