I love to meet up at Panera for a smoothie and great conversation with colleagues or clients. I don't have a formal office, so a quiet booth at Panera has often been my space to convene with others, and if you see me there, you'll know the conversation will likely center on kids and how to support their progress. As a follow-up to these kinds of meet-ups, I'll try to share my big takeaways and the pro-tips that come from them!

I recently met at Panera with my teacher-friend, Ann, who’s a long-time educator and champion for gifted kids. We worked together through the university program where I used to teach teachers striving to become educators of the gifted child. I brought her two copies of my book Child in Bloom, one for her and one for her principal, who she hopes might host a parenting event in the near future.

We talked for almost two hours. We can go on and on 😍. We spent time problem-solving around specific situations, and we discussed how to be more keenly aware of the smallest bits of progress with kids.

My big takeaway was the classroom motto which she shared with me… “Slow progress is still progress.”

What’s your home life motto? How do you embed an openness to celebrating slow and small bits of progress instead of waiting and wishing for big gains that take forever to happen?
