We spent July outside enjoying the Chicago Summer. We were in Grant Park at the beginning of the month for the Design Museum of Chicago’s Flag Feast at the Taste of Chicago. And then later in the month our Social Hour brought us to Smith Park. Both events were great opportunities to connect.

We’re meeting at the Intuit Art Museum, enjoying a free, guided tour of their latest exhibition: Henry Darger’s Paper Doll Collection along with a chance to socialize and discuss the exhibit after.

This September, in collaboration with AHA Time, One Design, and Two Thirty, we will be hosting an exhibition featuring your Values Posters.
We invite you to submit a poster centered on the values of our time. This is an opportunity to shape culture and spark a conversation that challenges how we see ourselves and the world. Your submission can have a profound impact not only in the creative world but also in the lives of individuals and communities.
To participate, select a value that speaks to you and translate your thoughts and feelings into a meaningful visual expression. You’re welcome to use any visual medium for your submission, which includes photography, collage, digital, 3D, typography, etc. A selection of submitted posters will be printed and showcased at the exhibit.

In this edition of BOLD MARKS, Tori speaks to Doug Alberts, a Chicago-based motion designer and founder of Noodle, a studio that partners with brands to create animation, design, and systems that are thoughtful, joyful, and eye-striking. She explores how Doug’s talent shows through quick but effective short films and animations.
We had some excellent conversations on Underscore this month. First up was Jo-nell Sieren. She shares about her path from studying photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York to building one of Columbia College's most ambitious student programs — Agency Columbia, a studio that placed students in real client engagements with real deadlines. She shares how that experience of learning through doing, not just observing, shaped her entire philosophy as an educator.
Following was a conversation with Jarrett Fuller, designer, writer, educator, and host of the long-running podcast Scratching the Surface. He reflects on ten years and nearly 300 episodes of Scratching the Surface, what he's learned about listening, and why the questions keep multiplying rather than resolving.
