The Harder Kindness

Charles F Glassman MD · Fear Is a Liar

It’s easy to be nice to someone who seems to have less than us. Their struggle doesn’t threaten our own sense of where we stand.

The harder test comes when someone appears to have more: more success, more recognition, a life that looks like it’s moving faster than ours. That’s when comparison can start to crowd out kindness.

But someone else’s good fortune doesn’t take anything from our own path. We lose far more by turning bitter than we ever gain by treating life like a competition.

Kindness begins with the understanding that we all struggle.

Real security lets us remember that, and to be genuinely happy for someone else without feeling smaller ourselves.

If you saw yourself in any of this, Fear Is a Liar goes deeper. Chapters 1 and 5 are yours, free. Read them here →
