This year, I am resisting filling my summer to the brim with plans. I am leaning into spontaneity, flow and chillaxation. The simple joys of summer to me are hanging out with friends on a beach or around a fire. I love to voraciously read as much as possible and drink lots of herbal tea, sparkling concoctions to stay cool.

This is my list of what I intend to do this summer to lean into the relaxing and easy vibe of summer. I will be soaking up every moment and enjoying those Michigan 9pm sunsets with my little beverage and a book as much as possible.

I am not here to sell you anything, I’m just sharing my vision for a spacious summer where I am actually enjoying it and not running around from thing to thing.

  • Go up north

  • Swim at Trout Lake

  • Bike ride to Belle Isle

  • Gardening everyday ✅

  • Make pottery outside

  • Hang out on the porch at home and at my bistro table on the sidewalk at my studio

  • Read by the water at the beach ✅

  • Visit the Detroit Historical Museum

  • Visit the DIA

  • Go to the drive-in

  • Walk the entire lakefront in Chicago (18.5 miles) ✅

  • Go to Rouge Park (never been to this park in Detroit)

  • Go to Palmer Park (also never been to this park in Detroit)

  • Visit Historic Fort Wayne (trying to explore my city more)

  • Go to Greenfield Village ✅

  • Attend Belle Isle Swim Club each Friday morning (the best way to start your day on the beach with coffee from 7-9am) ✅

  • Go kayaking ✅

The themes of my summer are: exploring my own city, spending time outside, reading as much as possible, and hanging out with my loved ones. Some of these things I have already been doing (yay!) and some are still on the list.

Because I am a passionate list-maker, I made additional smaller lists for July and August :)

I am currently on a break from Instagram and Tiktok for the month of July. It’s been nice to release myself from the compulsive checking and all the lost moments of looking at my phone. I still have a ways to go to create more mental space in my daily life regarding my screen usage. Lately I’ve been keeping my phone on black & white mode and dabbling in assisted access mode.

reading on the beach, eating fresh strawberries from my garden, and making homemade watercolor paints from the lake pigments I made

I am wishing you a slow paced summer filled with spontaneous side quests, fresh berries and swimming in natural bodies of water.

What’s on your summer bucket list?
