On Earth Day 2025, Cerulean Ventures hosted our investor network and seven of our AI founders working on natural intelligence presented, renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, circular economy and planetary AI.
This Earth Day we want to highlight one of those seven, LGND.ai.
When we made our foundational investment in LGND.ai, we believed that decades of open satellite data — sitting largely inaccessible to most of the world — represented one of the most underutilized scientific resources ever assembled. Today, that thesis became something real.
LGND.ai, together with AWS and Clay, has completed an AI Earth model running across the entire Sentinel-2 archive. Sentinel-2 captures nearly all of Earth’s land surface at 10-meter resolution every five days. That’s one of the most detailed, continuous open records of planetary change ever created — and it’s now searchable.
This means agricultural scientists, conservationists, journalists, public health researchers, and builders anywhere in the world can query the planet the way they’d use Google or ChatGPT — without needing to run a foundation model themselves.
Working with LGND.ai, Clay’s Sentinel-2 embeddings will be published openly on Source Cooperative, joining a growing commons that includes Clay-NAIP and Google DeepMind’s AlphaEarth.
Humanity has had its eyes opened to the whole planet from space for over 50 years. Making that record usable — for everyone, openly — is the work LGND.ai is doing. We’re proud to have believed in it early.
