Hello March! And hello Autumn. The days have still been reaching the high twenties to mid thirties (Celsius) here but there has been a noticeable shift in the light and the mornings are starting to get that lovely crispness about them. February was a busy month with the eldest starting high school and learning to navigate the ins and outs that come with that. And my youngest was picked to join the SRC (Student Representative Council) by his class mates so that was pretty exciting.
A Melody of Death came back from my editor and I have worked through all her suggestions. This is what she had to say about it: Wow! What a follow up to the first book! It’s magnificent. I loved it.
That new project I mentioned is now sitting at 68,000 words and I am about halfway (or just past halfway maybe). I was thinking it would come in around 80-90,000 words but, ah yeah, that’s not going to happen. I am loving writing it though; it is so much fun. Here’s hoping I can finish it by the end of the month.

I finished The League of Gentlewomen Witches. Whilst I did enjoy it I found that the romance moved a little too fast for my liking and there were a few chapters in the middle where I nearly put it down and didn’t pick it up again. I’m glad I didn’t put it down though. I have now moved on to The Secret Service of Tea and Treason, which I am enjoying but once I am finished I think I need something a little dark and meatier to balance the quirky sweetness.
In terms of craft books I read Intuitive Editing by Tiffany Yates Martin. And what a fantastic book on revision for authors this is. It covers all the basics from developmental issues like characters, plot, pacing to the more nuanced nitty gritty sentence level stuff that you need to keep in the back of your mind when revising your own work.
We’ve been watching Delicious in Dungeon since it started on Netflix earlier in the year. It is a really fun show especially for D&D nerds and we happen to be a house full of D&D nerds so we are enjoying it immensely.
The Sovereigns of Bright and Shadow Omnibus will on sale for 25% off between the 15th and 25th of March. I’ll post about it on my social media channels once the sale goes live.
Now that the edits on AMOD are done I will be turning my focus to getting it out in the world.
Hopefully finishing the first draft of the secret project book. If it does get finished I might reveal the details of it next month.
Next month I am taking part in the Indievisible Spring Spectacular so I will be getting organised for that and will have more details next month.
