Happy New Year! I’m not really a setting resolutions type, once upon a time I was but that was a very long time ago now. I do set goals, mostly small manageable ones that don’t require me to wake up as a completely different person full of motivation and gumption on January first. This year’s goals are similar to last year’s but hopefully this time I can stick the landing better.

  • As of the writing of this update I have entered what I believe is the last chapter of A Melody of Death. The end is so close now, I know I have been saying that for a while but I mean this time. Really, LOL.

  • I changed up my author logo and updated my website. I hadn’t touched my website since 2022 and it has been on my to do list since April last year. So it was a little bit overdue.

  • I started The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels and am thoroughly enjoying it.

  • I have also been reading The Art of Slow Writing, which coincidentally ties in with one of my goals for this year.

  • We started watching the new Percy Jackson series, so far we are enjoying it, though Royce is keeping a running commentary about how it deviates from the movie. We haven’t read the books but the boys received the set for Christmas so we will find out just how much the series and the movies deviate from the books themselves.

  • Finishing A Melody of Death! By the end of this weekend! Provided nothing major happens to delay the writing of the final chapter.

  • Publish A Melody of Death (May 30th)

  • Write the third book in the Isles of Bright and Shadow (IOBAS) trilogy

  • Write a super secret project that is not related to my Realms of Bright and Shadow (ROBAS) books, as a palate cleanse before deciding which ROBAS story I want to focus on in 2025. This one is very tentative as IOBAS: Book Three will have my full attention for most, if not all of the year.

  • I’ve set my Goodreads reading goal to a modest 26 books just like last year. Most of the time I fail these not because I don’t read a lot (I do read pretty much every day but I also tend to be a much slower reader these days than I used to be. Life kind of sucks that way at times) but it is more that I forget to update my read dates for books on Goodreads when I finish them. But I did really well with keeping up with it last year so well see how 2024 goes.

My main goal is to focus on reconnecting with my own personal creative process. I fell off the creative wagon a little (okay a lot) in 2023 and it created a bit of a disconnection with my process . I had to keep reminding myself that the somewhat seasonal cycles of my process were different to those of other writers and that it was okay to just write my way. So I am partaking what I am calling a year of slow writing. I might elaborate on that more in the future but for now I am choosing to keep the details close to my chest for a while.

Wishing everyone a bright start to the new year and I will be back in a month with another update.
