I said something on my stories yesterday that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.
I was talking about the 7-Day Well-Led Home Challenge and why I made it $7, and I said:
“I don’t want you to spend another month consuming content about organization and leading your home and still not knowing where to start.”
And whew. Because we can do that, can’t we? 😂
You know something isn’t working at home, so you start looking for answers. You save a cleaning schedule. You watch someone explain their Sunday reset. You find a new meal-planning system. You save a reel about getting your kids to help around the house. Then somebody shows you their family command center and suddenly you’re on Amazon looking at acrylic calendars.
Meanwhile, the original problem is still sitting there.
You still don’t know what’s for dinner tomorrow. The laundry situation is still stressing you out. Everyone is still asking you what they’re supposed to be doing. You’ve consumed a LOT of really good information, and you still haven’t figured out what to actually do first.
I think this is where a lot of us get stuck.
Because when your home feels like it needs help in 17 different places, where exactly do you start?
This is one of the biggest things I want women to understand about leading their homes.
Pay attention to what repeats.
The same argument keeps happening.
The same thing keeps getting forgotten.
You keep getting to 5 p.m. with the same dinner problem.
You keep having to remind the same person about the same responsibility.
Every time you try to leave the house, you’re looking for the same three things.
Every Sunday night, you realize there are things coming up that week that nobody prepared for.
Every time the laundry piles up, you have to stop everything and figure out how you’re going to catch up.
That’s where I want you to look.
Because those repeated little moments are telling you something about the way your home is currently operating. And sometimes I think we miss them because we’ve gotten so used to handling them.
You find the missing shoes. You remind everybody. You move the appointment. You figure out dinner. You switch the laundry. You text your husband. You order the thing nobody remembered you were almost out of.
Handled. Handled. Handled. Handled.
Then you wake up tomorrow and do some version of it all over again.
After a while, it just feels like life.
But when something is repeatedly requiring you to step in and figure it out, that’s something worth looking at.
You don’t have to fix the whole house.
I think this is the part that makes starting feel so hard.
You finally decide, Okay, I need to get our home together. And then you look around and see EVERYTHING. 😂
Meals. Laundry. Cleaning. Calendars. Kids’ responsibilities. Paperwork. Groceries. Bedtime. School stuff. The closet you’ve been meaning to clean out since approximately 2019.
Of course you’re overwhelmed… That’s way too much to implement at once. So shrink the assignment.
What is one thing that keeps happening in your home that you’re tired of figuring out over and over again?
Start there.
You don’t even need the solution yet.
Just name the thing.
Maybe it’s:
Every morning, we’re looking for something before we leave.
Or:
I’m the only person who seems to know what needs to happen after dinner.
Or:
I never know when I’m going to get to the laundry, so eventually it becomes an emergency.
Or:
We keep realizing things are happening on the calendar the day before they happen.
THAT is so much easier to work with than “I need to be more organized.”
Now we have something.
Today is Day 1 of the 7-Day Well-Led Home Challenge, and this is exactly where I’m having everyone start.
We’re walking the home.
Not with a label maker. 😂
We’re walking it like a leader.
We’re paying attention to where things are getting dropped, where there’s confusion, where there’s repeated frustration, and where too much is being required from one person to keep everything moving.
Then over the next seven days, we’re going to start doing something about what we find.
We’ll do a Weekly Home Review. We’ll choose one recurring problem and create a system for it. We’ll make that system visible and teachable. We’ll look at family responsibilities. We’ll establish some home defaults.
Little by little, I’m showing you how to look at your home, identify what it needs, make a decision, and implement it.
Because THAT is the skill I want you to leave with.
I want you to know how to start.
And if you’ve been following The Well-Led Home for months, saving posts and thinking, I know I need to do this stuff…
Come do it with me.
