I have a story to tell you, and it begins with a small seed of desire, literally.
I was maybe 16, on a walk in Mount Pleasant near the bridge and I found a seed pod that belonged to a Mimosa Tree. The Mimosa Tree is a non-native, sometimes considered “invasive” deciduous, fast growing tree that bears tufts of fuzzy pink blossoms in the late Spring (about now here in the Lowcountry). You’ve probably seen one and admired her pink fluffy flowers.
I had grown fond of this tree for several years at this point because of her unique flowers and I wanted to cultivate my own somewhere in my life where I could watch it grow up and change over the years. I found a mimosa pod on a walk one day in Mount Pleasant and managed to carry the pod all the way home without misplacing it (or forgetting its in my pocket and putting it in the wash). Most wild collected seeds or cuttings end up forgotten in my pocket and then into the laundry.
So I took this Mount Pleasant born seed 14 years ago, and stuck it…
