DO NOT TALK TO ME ABOUT ❝AI❞
YOU MAKE ME LONG FOR THE SWEET EMBRACE OF DEATH
BY USING AI, YOU HAVE GIVEN A PASS TO
• The staggering climate and ecological impact
• The outright attack on labor by capital
• The systemic disregard of consent
• The basis in wholesale theft and plagiarism
• The assault on the very concept of objective truth
• The enrichment of the most cringe billionaire fascist motherfuckers the world has ever seen
THERE IS NO ETHICAL USE OF AI
If you ignore all of that, you are trying to negotiate what level of harm to others you find acceptable for your personal, selfish benefit. You advance the agenda of these hollow-eyed, joyless money ghouls who resent art, creativity, and life itself.
THE MACHINE IS DISGUSTING AND MUST BE DESTROYED

I had some cards printed up.

These are unlikely to change any minds, but they will defintely shorten some incredibly tedious conversations at the bar.

Here's a PDF if you'd like some of your own.

Previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously, previously.

I hope these work for you but you and I both likely fear that they will somehow prompt an entirely new, meta level of conversation that we extremely (where’s the trepanning button) do not want. I eagerly (please, please oh my god) await your report that I am dead wrong and will then place a bulk order. Please be right. Thank you.

I wish I could mind dump this whole thing onto a person having a phone conversation with me. Every time lately that I’m talking to a customer service person and mention how “I get it, software’s weird, I work in software” they start going on a tangent about their AI agents 😱

yes but local LLMs on your own computer is not as bad. the models were already trained so the worst possible crime you commit is adding a +1 on that hugging face download counter.

        • 14

          Via Mastodon

i don't see what's so surprising to you. he posted cards he created that literally say not to talk to him about it, then posted about those cards, and you insist on sliding into his replies to demand a conversation. now you're saying he's being mean for no reason? the reason is clear as anybody could ask for. leave him alone about it

if you honestly were confident with it being okay for you to use local models you wouldn't insist on arguing with people about it for validation or whatever motivates you to disregard basic boundary setting

    • 6

      Via Mastodon

"my slop is good because it's a local model" does not change the fact that all you're doing is generating slop, hth

      • 2

        Via Mastodon

depends what you use it for. if someone is okay with using it for personal use like roleplay on their own hardware and no one else sees it, why do you care that someone generated slop on their computer?

        • 3

          Via Mastodon

          because you're generating slop

          • Via Mastodon

okay? and if i play a shitty game that was made in 5 minutes by a human that you dont like should you judge that i like it? its low quality slop to you and its good enough to me

            • 3

              Via Mastodon

you're arguing directly for the proliferation of LLM garbage by saying "what if it was human made", i guess this is what local models do to you, qed

              • Via Mastodon

not exactly, its about individual use of software. you have the right to use software on your own computer. besides, ai can be used to help with coding like creating simple scripts and saving some time

Absolutely. Few would object to the AI that helps detect bank card fraud, or the AI image analysis that helps diagnostic screening, or the AI protein folding that helps develop treatments for disease.

      • Via Mastodon

      • 24

        • Via Mastodon

I've run an offline llm on my computer. I've programmed response logic for enemies in games and played chess and other games aganst a computer. I've used text and image recognition and benefitted from an image cropping tool guessing where I wanted to crop to.

          • 7

            Via Mastodon

The demand for newer local models means the corporations behind them have to waste datacenter resources training them in the first place, just for chess, some memes and to crop images.

            >that's ALL I use it for

Considering the planet is literally dying to train these models, that ain't a great flex.

          • 3

            Content Warning: cw: AI negative

@twigpi @jwz You are knowingly mixing up LLMs (which are impossible to train locally and without breaking consent/copyright by using half of internet for training, even if already trained model is possible to be run locally), non-ML algorithms (which are not what people are talking about when mentioning AI, nobody is like, angry at Akinator for being "AI", because expert systems aren't related to any of "Generative AI" issues), and a simpler neural network that can be realistically made at home and doesn't output training data in any way (though modern incarnation of it is usually mixed up with LLMs and used for surveillance)

I have to ask you as a composer how you feel about this?» I could only facepalm as loudly as possible and ask if we could please, PLEASE talk about something else. Weddings are supposed to be happy! Wish I had this card.

Gah. I was at a human composed opera a while ago and was similarly taken aback:

      Den of Earth (@DenOfEarth@mas.to):

      @lokeloski@mastodon.social
I recently went to an opera where the composer was not only present but also performing as one of the soloists, among five other vocalists, along with a men's choir, accompanied by a full orchestra.

The backdrop to this rich contribution to human musical art was AI visuals projected onto a screen.

I was only trying to point out that many many peeps feel that "AI" is gonna be the end of us for a number of reasons, but that we don't all think that cussing will get us listened to. For some, cussing is instant dismissal, rather than an inducement to listen.

        Thanks.

I noticed that those who don’t like it are said the most about AI.
at least in my practice. I think a lot of people can discuss for a long time how they hate something :blobfoxfingerguns:

OK, for fun, this is kind of a "remix". Well, more "inspired by" because I didn't use the provided pdf, just referenced against the photo. I wrote it all out by hand, so the original text is somewhat trimmed, but hopefully hits all the high points. Should be print-res and correct ratio for standard business card.I like the "hornet stripe" on the top, it gives fair warning about the touchiness of the subject. The quotes around "AI" could stand to look more like demon horns or something, but I didn't think of that until I got it uploaded...
