Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is on an epic record-breaking run.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fastest movie ever to cross the $700-million US mark at the North American box office, hitting the milestone in just 13 days.
To put that into perspective, only seven movies have ever swung over that line in North America. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame, for instance, both hit the achievement in 16 days.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day — a Marvel and Sony production — marks actor Tom Holland's fourth time suiting up to lead as Peter Parker. He stars alongside his wife, Zendaya, as well as Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan favourites Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Sadie Sink.
The movie follows Holland's Peter Parker living alone in New York in a world where Spider-man was erased from everyone's memory. As he struggles with his loneliness, his powers start acting up.
And forget swinging through Queens — this iteration of the franchise is soaring past milestone after milestone.
Not only has the latest instalment pulled in $704.5-million US in North America, it’s also made $1.108-billion US internationally after only two weekends in theatres. That surpasses the international take-home of its predecessor No Way Home, which grossed $1.106-billion US.
The momentum doesn't stop there. The blockbuster also:
- Just beat Avengers: Endgame for the biggest domestic opening weekend ever.
- Earned the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history.
- Claimed the title of second-fastest film to reach $1-billion US globally, just behind Avengers: Endgame.
- Became Sony’s highest-grossing release of all time across 26 international markets.
