The incumbent mayor of Windsor has announced he will seek a fourth term.
Drew Dilkens told reporters on Thursday that he intends to file for candidacy on Friday, before the 2 p.m. nomination deadline.
According to Dilkens, he didn't announce earlier because he's been "busy being mayor and doing the important work of governing."
"There'll be plenty of time for the election," Dilkens said. "There'll be more details to come."
"You've heard me say many times that I've never been more optimistic about the future of our city than I am today. I double-down on that," he continued.
"We've got so many exciting things happening, things that you've seen play out over the course of the last year — but so much more in the pipeline."
Dilkens was first elected Windsor mayor in 2014 after serving two terms as Ward 1 councillor.
As of Thursday afternoon, there are nine other candidates for Windsor mayor, including current Ward 1 councillor Fred Francis.
Municipal election day in Windsor is Oct. 26.
Dilkens said he's looking forward to "knocking on doors and having great conversations with residents."
