A 91-year-old woman has died, police say, after she was struck Tuesday night by a vehicle in Hamilton's East Mountain.

On Wednesday morning police said the woman was walking in the bike lane with the help of a mobility walker when an 81-year-old woman driving a Hyundai struck her from behind.

Police said they attended the scene around 8:30 p.m., and the driver was co-operating with investigators.

Police said the pedestrian was transported to Hamilton General Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

In an update shortly before noon, police said "the pedestrian involved in the collision ... has succumbed to their injuries."

Stone Church E. was closed in both directions in the area of Upper Wellington Street, but has since reopened, police said.

Officers are asking anyone who saw what happened or anyone who has video footage to contact police.
