Alberta's police watchdog says an RCMP officer has been arrested and is facing four charges in a case of alleged intimate partner violence.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) said it had been investigating the allegations since early July. The police watchdog said the unnamed officer, who was stationed in central Alberta, was arrested and charged on Tuesday.
ASIRT said the officer has been charged with assault, uttering threats, unlawful confinement and intimidation.
The police watchdog said it has made a rare exception to not disclose the name of the officer in order to protect the identity of the victim.
ASIRT said the officer was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
