I saw this quote today on social media: crows hold grudges for up to seventeen years. I adore crows and was inspired to write a poem. Crows over bros, always <3

Crows Hold Grudges for 17 years
The human body replaces itself
every seven years.
I still taste you when I bite
my bottom lip.
Your fingerprints linger
in my cells, like a branding,
a mark of ownership,
the heat of hell, so I hate
a piece of myself.
I planned to mate for life,
find my other half and
boil in a melding pot
of shared desire.
Now, I hold charred love
like a curse, a grudge
I can’t rid myself of
and I am branded
on your skin in scars
from claws scraping down
your back and incisors
marking your neck.
I wonder if you touch
the discolored lines,
my initials written
in a language
only we uttered
in whispers, in darkness,
in hidden space so no one
saw the way you hungered for me,
stuck between desire and animosity—
both as deadly as aconite and
as alluring as blooming wolfsbane.
New posts every Friday. I usually post a poem, the process behind writing it, a spoken version of said poem, and some type of photo or collage. Join the chasm of chaos that is my mind…
