In the aftermath of a political scandal, there are those who heed calls to resign, because they know the public has lost faith in them. There are others who issue a public apology, mend their ways and hope the public will forgive them. There are those caught in wrong-doing who are happy when the heat subsides, who do their best to not to trigger unwanted attention and avoid public scrutiny.

Then there are the Zieglers.

In November 2023 Sarasota’s prominent political duo, Bridget and Christian Ziegler, made headlines in stunning fashion. Mr. Ziegler, then-Chairman of the Florida Republican Party, was accused of sexual assault. In the ensuing investigation, Bridget Ziegler, a co-founder of Moms for Liberty and Sarasota School Board member, told police that her husband’s accuser had participated in a threesome with her and her husband. A police investigation of information on Christian Ziegler’s phone revealed concerning behaviors by the couple. These include Christian Ziegler surreptitiously photographing women in bars and texting their pics to Bridget Ziegler for her approval before Christian approached them as potential three-way participants.

“There were numerous text messages between Bridget and Christian where they are on the prowl for a female and Bridget is directing him to numerous different bars in search of a female that they are both interested in,” the detective wrote of Ziegler’s phone data. “During these conversations Christian is secretly taking photographs of women in the bars and sending them to Bridget asking her if she wants this one or that one. Bridget is telling him to pretend to take pictures of his beer, so they don’t see him taking pictures of them.”

Police also found “numerous sexual videos” on Christian Ziegler’s phone involving the couple and other women, according to investigation documentation. The police wrote it wasn’t clear if the women in the videos had consented to being recorded.

Ziegler maintained his innocence throughout the investigation. Police ended the investigation without any charges. The police concluded they were unable to develop probable cause to charge Ziegler with sexual battery. But the investigation findings were troubling enough that there was public outcry demanding Bridget Ziegler resign her school board seat. There was outcry from the Republican Party of Florida demanding that Christian Ziegler resign as Chair.

Bridget Ziegler ignored the public outcry and refused to resign from the school board. Sarasota voters learned they do not have a way to recall a school board member for violating the public trust the way Bridget Ziegler has.

Christian Ziegler refused to resign his position as Chair of the Florida GOP. Members of the Florida GOP executive committee voted to remove him.

The question now: is Christian Ziegler’s behavior something parents would accept in an adult influencing their high school age son or daughter? Are Sarasota parents good with having Mr. Ziegler recruit their sons and daughters for a club - any club?

Because that’s what Christian Ziegler has come out of the woodwork to do. He’s recruiting high school students in Sarasota County to start Turning Point USA clubs in their schools.

Turning Point USA is the organization led by the late Charlie Kirk.

If high school students want to start a Turning Point USA club at their school, that’s fine.

The question is, do Sarasota parents want a man who cruised bars taking photos of women without their knowledge, for the purpose of getting his school board member wife’s approval to approach those she finds attractive for a threesome - do parents want that guy to be involved in any way, shape or form with any high school club? Would that guy be a welcome recruiter for the Woodworking club? The Computer Club? The Chess Club? And since when do such adults start high school clubs? What is that about?

Of course most Sarasota parents would give that guy starting, influencing or playing any role with a high school club a big thumbs down.

It’s clear that Christian Ziegler is using the death of Charlie Kirk to work himself back into a power position in Republican politics. He’s using high school students to assist with his image rehabilitation quest.

When the Florida GOP leadership ousted Christian Ziegler, one party official said “The problem with being party chair is that you’re supposed to help get other people elected. But if you become the story, it kind of puts a black eye on a lot of the socially conservative messaging….It’s a career-ender politically, in my opinion,” the member continued. “He’s always going to be the threesome guy.”

The “threesome guy” has no business influencing high school students about anything. Neither does his wife.
