There is a concerted effort right now to disparage and malign the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX). For a normal person looking at this from the outside, this effort would seem bizarre. The only thing that could possibly trigger this hate campaign is the fact that the Society plans on consecrating a few auxiliary bishops this upcoming July 2026.
The SSPX did the exact same thing back in 1988. This led to the supposed excommunications of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and the four bishops he consecrated at that time. These false excommunications were nevertheless later lifted by Pope Benedict. Since that time, the SSPX has continued to operate, ordaining priests, providing the faithful with sacraments, and teaching the faith while always maintaining its loyalty to Holy Mother Church.
If another round of consecrations takes place, nothing about the current situation will change. The status quo will be maintained. The only one threatening to change the status quo with excommunications again is Cardinal “Tucho” Fernandez, Leo XIV’s arch-heretic henchman. Leo won’t even meet with Society leadership.
So, what is really going on here?
The answer is that the SSPX, unlike other traditional groups, is viewed as a threat by the synodal church establishment. Why not the FSSP or other former Ecclesia Dei communities that celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM)?
Because for the SSPX it has always been about preserving the faith and Catholic Tradition—not just the TLM. And to do this, it is necessary to question Vatican II teachings as well as the teachings of the post-conciliar popes. This is not acceptable to those advancing the new synodal church agenda. This is a threat.
The revolution in the Church has always been a doctrinal and political one. To advance the modernist, secular agenda, the Church’s doctrines and authority in the world must be dismantled and replaced. Ultimately, the Church’s traditional teachings, especially on sexual morality, against usury, and against liberal government regimes in general, constitute a threat to the establishment of a one-world religion and new world order.
While the SSPX never claimed to be the society that intends to solve the crisis in the Church, de facto, that is what is happening. Keeping Tradition, including the Church’s fundamental doctrines alive and operative in the lives of the faithful, constitutes a major threat.
The SSPX also provides an opportunity for living out the faith in a way that simply does not exist in your neighborhood parishes that celebrate the Novus Ordo Mass. The SSPX proves there is a more authentic and fulfilling way to live out one’s Catholic life, and the hierarchy does not want such ideas being exposed to typical New Mass attendees.
The SSPX is a problem that needs to be solved now before it becomes more popular. Unlike any time before, the SSPX is making mainstream news headlines, and others are beginning to ask questions about why the Society exists in the first place. THIS is a threat.
I lived the Novus Ordo life for years as a cradle Catholic and well into my adulthood. Once I discovered tradition and then the SSPX, my spiritual and religious life changed forever. My eyes were opened to what existed for 2000 years before Vatican II: the same religion and faith my ancestors believed and practiced. This reality remains either obscured or undiscovered for millions.
