Cate St Hill · Untold Spaces: Notes on Home and Living

I’m a southerner and I naturally tend to gravitate to what’s around me in London and Kent, mostly for ease (why is train travel north so expensive?!), but there’s a lot to love the further north you go. I had been to Manchester a couple of times before – most notably for my best friend’s wedding – but last week I really got to immerse myself in the city, with a foodie 36 hours in the capital of the north. If there’s one thing I could say about Manchester is it’s effortlessly cool and unpretentious. It’s not trying to be anything it’s not. It didn’t feel like a place where you had to dress a certain way or worry about fitting in. Naturally for the north, everyone’s super friendly and there’s plenty of little unassuming places to discover that aren’t shouting for attention – you just have to know about them.

In this travel guide, I’ve curated the best places to stay, the tastiest restaurants, the coolest cocktail bars and the homeware shops not to miss. Oh and a gallery and exhibition too!
