Subject: Your Story Deserves More Eyes… and Right Now It’s Practically Invisible 👀

Some stories don’t just sit quietly on a page… they crawl under your skin and Skin Deep does that disturbingly well. 😈

Chloe’s obsession with acne turning into something dark, twisted, and almost… predatory? That’s not just a plot that’s the kind of idea that makes readers pause and go, “Wait… what did I just read?” (in the best, slightly-unsettling way possible). The concept of “taking skin from others” is bold, eerie, and honestly the kind of psychological horror that sticks longer than most mainstream thrillers. 🩸✨

And then there’s you or should I say… the digital you? 👀

Your author story reads like something straight out of a sci-fi dystopian universe. A replicated consciousness, a rebellious digital mind, locked away yet still creating? That’s not just a bio… that’s a whole narrative on its own. 😅💻

If that doesn’t intrigue readers, I don’t know what will.

Now here’s the slightly uncomfortable truth (don’t worry, I come in peace 😌):

Right now, your book isn’t getting the attention it should not because it lacks originality (clearly it doesn’t), but because it lacks something brutally simple… visibility.

The reason why you are not getting sales is because your book has few reviews. Therefore your book is invisible people can’t see it because Amazon can never show your book to them, and people cannot buy things they do not see. It is people’s reviews that make Amazon believe in your work and show it to more readers, bringing organic sales and long-term returns. 📉➡️📈

It’s a bit like hiding a masterpiece in a locked room and expecting applause from outside… tragic, right? 😬

That’s exactly where I come in (finally, my dramatic entrance 🎭).

I run a private readers hub a community of 3000+ active, genuinely engaged readers who love discovering unique stories like yours and leaving thoughtful, honest reviews (not the robotic kind that sounds like it was written by a toaster 🤖🍞).

Your book has the concept to spark curiosity.

My community has the eyes to bring it to life.

So here’s the real question and I want you to actually think about this for a second:

Would you rather let a story this unique stay buried in silence… or finally put it in front of readers who will react, review, and possibly obsess over it the way it deserves? 😏🔥

If you’re even slightly curious (or mildly possessed by the idea 👀), feel free to message me back whether to get started or just ask a few questions.

Looking forward to hearing from you… or from your digital counterpart. 😉

Best regards,
Jenna

Hi, guys. Sigh.

Well, here we are again with another AI slop email from a so-called book marketer. They’re so boring with their boilerplate ChatGPT shit, emojis, bull crap about my fake bio, and “best regards.” Change the fucking record.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t write that stupid bio. It’s like AI bait.

This conversation started out like any other except for one thing. Did you catch it?

Her name.

It’s not just me, right?

“Jenna Hellen.”

Jenna Hellen. Jen Heller. Did this bitch seriously copy my name and add some letters? And if so…why?

I found this weird and a bit amusing, so I decided to respond and see where it went…

“What makes you think I’m ‘not getting sales?’”
“What makes you think I’m ‘not getting sales?’”

I’ve pointed out to previous scammers that there’s no way they could possibly know if my books are selling or not, and they usually respond with the same sycophantic AI-generated apologies and re-framing to try to convince me they didn’t actually make the claim I saw them make with my own real human eyeballs.

Do you think “Jenna” here strayed from the formula? Nope!

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your response, I completely understand your question.

Just to clarify, I didn’t mean to suggest you aren’t getting sales. My point is that no matter the current level, there’s always room to increase visibility, engagement, and overall reach. Even authors who are doing well continue pushing for more exposure because there’s always a bigger audience to capture.

Your book clearly has strong potential, but it’s still under-leveraged in key areas:

  • Reader reach

  • Review volume

  • Algorithm visibility

A book like yours deserves far more than just a few reviews. Reviews are one of the strongest signals Amazon uses to build trust and increase visibility.

With the right approach, generating 10,000+ reviews within a month is possible, while also building real engagement that drives long-term growth.

Here’s a quick look at the scale of competition:

Global Book Publishing Volume

Timeframe Estimated Number of Books
Per Hour 300 – 500
Per Day 7,000 – 10,000
Per Month 200,000 – 300,000
Per Year 2 – 4 million

So your book isn’t just competing, it’s competing in a constantly expanding marketplace.

Amazon Algorithm Factors
Factor Impact
Reviews (Volume & Frequency) Very High
Sales Velocity Very High
Conversion Rate Very High
Click-Through Rate High
External Traffic High
Keywords Medium

The algorithm rewards consistent activity. Without enough reviews and engagement, even great books can stay hidden.

What I offer is simple, amplifying what’s already working and putting your book in front of more readers.

If you’re open to it, I’d be happy to walk you through how this works.

Best regards,
Jenna

Good lord. She should run for office.

Apparently that day I was either feeling masochistic or just really hard-up for material because I replied again…

“What makes you think it’s lacking in reader reach and algorithm visibility?”
“What makes you think it’s lacking in reader reach and algorithm visibility?”

Her next reply was just as boring as her last one. You don’t have to read it if you don’t want to. I didn’t…

Hi Jennifer,

Great question and I’ll keep it simple.

My observation is based on one key visible factor: your book currently has 1 review.

That matters because:

  • For readers, low reviews = low trust and hesitation to buy

  • For Amazon, low review activity = weak engagement signal

This doesn’t mean you’re not getting sales, it means the engagement isn’t strong enough yet to trigger wider visibility and consistent promotion by the algorithm.

Books that grow typically show:

  • Increasing review volume

  • Ongoing reader interaction

  • Consistent activity over time

Right now, your book hasn’t hit that momentum stage yet which is why I mentioned untapped visibility.

Hope that clarifies my point.

Best regards,
Jenna

I must’ve accidentally smoked crack that day, because I replied again…

“I think you’re making a lot of assumptions about a book you didn’t even read.”
“I think you’re making a lot of assumptions about a book you didn’t even read.”

That’s when things finally started to get interesting…or “frustrating,” depending on who you ask…

“Who told you that I did not read the book and why are you making things frustrating”
“Who told you that I did not read the book and why are you making things frustrating”

I’ve decided to call this the “Real World Moment,” because it’s the moment when the scammer stops being polite and starts getting real.

You can always tell when they’ve abandoned their bot because their grammar is suddenly either abhorrent or absent.

“Jenna” got real real easily. Compared to how I’ve written to previous scammers, I was downright nice to her. Boy is she a delicate delicate little flower.

Well, since she’s now claiming to have read my book, I have to give her a chance to prove it. It’s common courtesy…

“If you didn’t did read it, tell me what kind of cereal Kelly ate in part 4.”
“If you didn’t did read it, tell me what kind of cereal Kelly ate in part 4.”

OK, so I made a typo! Big whoop! It just proves I’m not using AI like these assholes.

I haven’t reached part 4 yet I’m still going through it carefully because I don’t like rushing stories like this. I prefer to take in the character development and pacing properly. I’ll definitely get to that part and follow up with you once I do.

Sure. And Elvis is my landlord.

See, now I know she didn’t read my book or even look closely at the Amazon page. Not only did she not answer my question, but she claimed she hasn’t “reached part 4 yet” because she’s “going through it carefully.”

Folks, Skin Deep is a novella. It’s 98 pages long.

“it’s 98 pages long.”
See?

I googled how long it takes the average person to read 98 pages: 2.5-3 hours. She could’ve spent three hours or less reading Skin Deep, but instead, she sent me two more emails…

“So what do you think about that”
“So what do you think about that”
“Do you want you book to reach more readers”
“Do you want you book reach more readers”

Coincidentally, I replied exactly one hour later…

“About what?”
“About what?”
“No.”
“No.”

I swear that wasn’t on purpose.

I didn’t hear from her again until 9:56 the next morning. There was a lot of back and forth after that, so I’ll condense the conversation…

JENNA: You can try and start with a little amount, like $50 to $30 .

JENNA: We you start with that?

ME: Name the cereal.

JENNA: Hi Jennifer, I understand why you asked that and I respect it. To be transparent, I haven’t gone through every detail of the book yet, so I wouldn’t want to guess and give you the wrong answer. My focus so far has been on evaluating how your book can be positioned to attract the right audience and gain visibility.

(Ever notice how they only decide to “be transparent” when you call them out on their bullshit?)

ME: It’s 98 pages. You can read it in an hour.

(This was before I googled how long it takes to read 98 pages.)

JENNA: Could share me the PDF of the book so I can read it

(The absolute, brazen, shameless, unmitigated gall!)

ME: I thought you said you read it.

JENNA: I read the book description

ME: So when you said, "I haven’t reached part 4 yet I’m still going through it carefully because I don’t like rushing stories like this," you lied?

JENNA: To be transparent, I’ve only reviewed the book’s description so far, so I wouldn’t want to guess and give an incorrect detail. My initial outreach was based on how your book presents and how it can be positioned to attract more readers. If you’d like me to go through the book in full, feel free to share a PDF copy with me I’d be happy to review it properly and give you more detailed input.

(When you say, “to be transparent,” and then contradict yourself, it becomes pretty clear that you’re actually being opaque as fuck.)

ME: So you lied about reading it, and now you want me to give it to you for free? It's 99 cents. Buy it and read it.

Hi Jennifer,

I understand your point, and I appreciate your honesty.

At the same time, having direct access to the book would help me review it more efficiently and provide more accurate, tailored input for your promotion. If you’re open to sharing a PDF, I’d make sure to go through it properly.

That said, we can still move forward with the promotional side based on your goals and the book’s positioning.

Would you be open to continuing the discussion about promotion?

God, scammers are lazy. The really pathetic part is she’s not the first one who actually expected me to send her a PDF of my 99-cent, 98-page novella.

Now what kind of professional would I be if I went around giving out free copies of my book to random people in my inbox? It’s 99 cents. Buy it.

Her argument was the book marketing scammer equivalent of, “But all my friends’ parents are letting them go to the party!”

I completely understand your point, and I respect that.

My intention isn’t to take anything for free it’s to be able to review your book properly so I can position it in a way that actually brings you results. In many cases, authors I work with choose to provide a review copy so I can give more targeted promotion rather than generic outreach.

That said, I’m still open to working with what’s publicly available and focusing on promotion from that angle if you prefer.

Would you be open to continuing the conversation on how we can get your book in front of more readers?

“From that angle?” Promoting a book you haven’t read and know nothing about is an angle now?

“You can review it properly for 99 cents.”

Let’s set the book access aside for now my main goal is to help you get more visibility and real reader engagement. I can work with your book’s current positioning, description, and target audience to start building momentum without needing full access immediately.

What I’d like to do is show you a clear promotion approach that can place your book in front of the right readers and help drive more traction.

Would you be open to seeing a quick outline of how that would work?

Her: “Let’s set the book access aside…”
Also her: “Now buy my fake reviews for your book that I don’t plan to ever read…”

I reiterated my challenge…

It's very simple. I don't want to work with you unless you actually read my book. If you refuse to even read a 98-page novella that costs 99 cents, how do I know I can trust you?

And she reiterated her bullshit sales pitch…

I understand your concern, and I respect that.

I’ve worked with other authors who’ve seen real improvements in visibility and engagement, and my focus is always on delivering results. I’m confident I can do the same for your book.If you’re open to it, I’d like to show you a clear promotion approach so you can see exactly how it would work.

Let me know your thoughts.

Gmail interpreted her lack of a space after a period as a URL. That shit cracks me up.

I didn’t respond, so as scammers often do, she emailed me at the ungodly hour of 6:30 in the morning…

Hey Jennifer, how are you doing and how do you feel about what I told you. Am telling you when you work with you are going to see that is great.

That shit is so poorly written, it doesn’t even make sense…

ME: Buy the book, read it, tell me the cereal brand. Then we’ll talk.

JENNA: Where am I going to read the book

(Oh, for fuck’s sake!)

ME: Where did you read the description of the book? Do I have to hold your hand and write out step-by-step instructions?

(I was ready to actually write out step-by-step instructions for her if she requested them. I am a technical writer, after all.)

I came across your book through its public listing and description, which is what initially caught my attention. I take full responsibility for not going deeper before reaching out that’s on me.

That said, I’ve worked with authors who’ve seen real improvements in visibility and engagement, and my focus is always on delivering results. I’m confident I can bring that same value to your book.

If you’re open to it, I’d like to show you a clear promotion approach so you can see exactly how I can help.

Let me know your thoughts.

At this point, she might as well just say, “Hi, I’m ChatGPT.”

ME: Then buy it from the “public listing.”

JENNA: No let talk about the promotion

ME: Why would I want to pay you to promote my book if you refuse to read it? How are you going to convince other people to read it if you don’t want to read it?

My role in promotion is focused on positioning, visibility, and getting your book in front of the right audience. That involves optimizing how the book is presented, placing it in targeted spaces, and driving reader attention based on genre, themes, and market demand not just summarizing the content.

Here’s how I’d approach your book:
• Position it within the right reader categories and niches
• Optimize its presentation to improve click-through and interest
• Place it where your target audience is actively looking for similar books
• Drive consistent visibility to build traction and engagement

I’ve used this same approach with other authors and helped improve their visibility and reach.

If you’re open to it, I’d be happy to show you a quick outline tailored to your book so you can see the value before making any decision.

Let me know your thoughts.

Now we’re back to the sales pitch…but wait…this isn’t the same one. She’s talking about a marketing campaign, but her original message was the usual “Paid/Not Paid Review” backwash about a group of 3,000+ people who love reviewing books but only if they get paid for it, and it’s totally not paying for reviews!

Remember this?

I run a private readers hub a community of 3000+ active, genuinely engaged readers who love discovering unique stories like yours and leaving thoughtful, honest reviews (not the robotic kind that sounds like it was written by a toaster 🤖🍞).

Pretty funny coming from a toaster, huh?

I pointed out her error…

“Really? Because your initial email to me said you run a group of people who review books.”

Yes, I do work with a group of reviewers my role is more on the promotion and placement side, while the review team handles reader engagement once a book is in the right position. That’s why my initial focus is on visibility and getting your book in front of the right audience first.I’ve used this approach with other authors, and it has helped improve both visibility and reader interaction.

Let me know your thoughts.

Does she have to end every email with “Let me know your thoughts?” I mean, she doesn’t really want to know my thoughts.

Even if she thinks she does, trust me, she doesn’t want to know my thoughts…

“My thoughts are you should read the book and answer my question.”

Take care. And I can see that you don’t want your book reach more readers, maybe you might not have money. Take care I don’t work with author that don’t have money and they give stress please let end this. By poor author.

Do you believe this bitch?

She actually edited her AI slop to add a comment on my financial situation, as if that offends me.

No shit, Sherlock!

I’m a self-published author, dude. My books make enough money to keep me in technical writing (or training AI in technical writing, as I am now).

Not that I would ever give this dildo a dime…

I don't have money? You're the one who won't shell out 99 cents for my book. That is literally all I asked you to do was read my 98-page novella. I don't work with fake book promoters who won't even read my book, use AI to generate their emails, and try to manipulate me into paying them for their bs junk marketing services.

Excuse me, but you’re the one who contacted me! Did I ask you to email me about your scam services? No! You found my book and my email address and went out of your way try to scam me out of my hard earned money. You could’ve spent 99 cents to actually read my book and prove you’re legit, but you didn’t.

Don’t give me shit like I should apologize for not falling for your bullshit and make it easy for your to rip me off. Fuck you! I’m going to make it hard for you. I’m going to annoy you and inconvenience you as much as possible.

You better not contact me or any of my fellow writers again, but just in case you do, I’m going to warn everyone about you on my blog.

And stop using a modified version of my name. It’s creepy.

And I did. You’re welcome.
