Look, I don’t have all the answers. Not even close. But I’ve been wrestling with how to live faithfully in this wild, information-overloaded world we’re all navigating together.

It’s A Lot, Right?

Can we just admit that sometimes it’s exhausting trying to figure out what to think about everything? Our phones buzz with breaking news about politics one minute, then flash with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s secret marriage the next. We’re trying to decide if we should worry about climate change while also debating whether those new Crocs are actually cute or completely ridiculous.

I keep coming back to what Paul wrote in Romans 12:2 about not getting sucked into the world’s patterns but letting God renew our minds. I think about that verse a lot when I’m doom-scrolling on Youtube at 11pm (anyone else guilty?).

Politics and Big Issues

I’m not going to tell you what to think about Trump or tariffs. But I will say this – the Bible calls us to pray for our leaders (even the ones we didn’t vote for) while remembering that no politician is our ultimate savior. When I get worked up about politics, I try to remember that my passport might say “American,” but my real citizenship is in heaven.

And climate change? Let’s be real – taking care of this planet isn’t liberal or conservative. It’s just being a good steward of what God gave us back in Genesis. We might disagree on policies, but surely we can agree that trashing God’s creation isn’t the move.

All The Fun Stuff

I’ll be honest – I know plenty of guys who live and die by their fantasy football league. They may spend too many Sunday afternoons yelling at the TV. And those Formula 1 races? Totally addicting for my Uncle Clay. I don’t think God is up there mad that we enjoy these things. He created fun and play!

But I do catch myself sometimes and wonder: am I more passionate about Corey Asbury’s new music than I am about serving others? Do I know more about New York City history than I do Scripture? It’s a heart check.

As for ChatGPT writing my emails and Threads competing with Instagram – technology just keeps coming at us faster and faster. I’m trying to ask myself: is this tool helping me love God and love others better? Or is it just another distraction?

The Stuff We Buy

Don’t get me started on online shopping. Fast fashion is so tempting when you can get clothes for cheap with one click (Temu, anyone?). But then I think about Jesus saying that whole thing about where your treasure is, that’s where your heart is too. Ouch.

I’m not saying you can’t buy those Crocs or save up for Coachella tickets. But I am trying to ask myself better questions about my spending. Like, what am I really searching for when I hit “add to cart”?

Here’s What I’m Trying to Remember

At the end of the day, all this stuff – the politics, the tech, the celebrities, the trends – it’s all temporary. What lasts is love. Loving God, loving people. That’s the bottom line.

I’m trying (imperfectly) to hold everything loosely except Jesus. To enjoy the good gifts without making them ultimate things. To engage with our complicated world without losing my soul in the process.
