Finally, she’s letting
her sleeves drip with ice cream
her lungs give way to laughter
She doesn’t hesitate
to say something encouraging
to take her time shopping
to pursue all her hobbies
She says “no, thank you”
to any suggestion that she be
smaller
quieter
more measured
She doesn’t want to be adored
for being perfectly ordered
Because if she remembers right
the Bible told her
“There is nothing better
for a person under the sun
than to eat and drink
and be glad.”
Ecclesiastes commended
the enjoyment of life,
and that is plenty of
permission
for her.
