Welcome to Unfancy’s Sunday ritual where we plan our outfits together. I share five looks I’ve put together for my week, and then invite you to do the same. My hope is that it gives you a calm + creative start to your week.

Good morning!

I’ve been out of sorts for a bit, so last week I tried to do the thing everyone says to do — create instead of consume. Anytime I was on the verge of a spiral, I’d whisper to myself, “It’s time to create something.” And it helped. It would get my mind off whatever I was stressing about (that was usually outside of my control anyway). What a welcome relief. What a creatively fulfilling week. I’m grateful for it.

Here’s what I made:

1 | Homemade corn salsa. I decided a summer-y corn salsa would be yummy for dinners this week, so I made a big batch and have been eating off it all week. I’ve been off my meal-prepping game and have barely had time to make it to the grocery, so it felt good to slow down and prepare this. Nothing like chopping veggies and herbs to calm your mind.

2 | Long, loose Bermuda shorts. I really had no idea if I would love these or hate these, but curiosity got the best of me — I held my breath and took fabric shears to some old jeans. I originally intended for an above-the-knee length, but ended up going with a longer length. Love them so! You really never know until you try. Things can surprise you.

3 | A painting. Back in March, I corralled my dad into helping me make a gigantic canvas (it’s taller than me!!) and I’ve been painting on it ever since. I painted a lot last week, and it was therapeutic. Hoping to end up with a cool, dark, abstract I can put in my living room.

Okay, let’s get into some outfits! Here are the outfits I’ve planned for this week.

(Also just so you know — about half the time, I wear something other than what I’ve planned. There’s no sticking-to-the-plan-at-all-costs here. I’ve found the real benefit of Sunday outfit planning is styling practice. It’s only been a few weeks, but I’ve gotten much more nimble at putting looks together in real time.)
