Welcome to Unfancy’s Sunday ritual where we plan our outfits together. I share five looks I’ve put together for my week, and then invite you to do the same. My hope is that it gives you some extra calm — like getting to close an open tab in your brain before the week begins.
Quick note for my fellow Texans: I’m going to be in Austin, TX next weekend (May 15-17th) for a couple of in-person styling sessions — if you’d like to schedule one for yourself, reach out to me here. We can strategize on how to navigate a change in your life and style, work on a capsule wardrobe, create new outfits from what you already have, or anything else you may need.
Good morning!
I’ve lately started playing around with my outfits in a new way, which sounds lovely, but stemmed from frustration — I want to feel new in my outfits, but I’m not making any new purchases at the moment.
How the heck do you infuse newness into your outfits without buying anything new? You take a keen eye to what you already have that you’re underutilizing.
So, somewhat begrudgingly, I did this. I combed through my wardrobe (and accessories! and jewelry!) looking for interesting pieces I’d forgotten about or written off.
I ended up with a small pile of things like rose-pink sunglasses, a one-shoulder tank top, a swingy khaki jacket, and cow-print loafers. I’d take one piece from the pile, and sandwich it between familiar pieces, like my parachute pants, running shorts, or favorite graphic tee.
It’s important to note that about half of what I tried didn’t work out. But the other half did.
It made what I have feel brand new — without buying anything. And it gave me this delicious sense of possibility that I haven’t been able to shake since. (Make sure to notice the last outfit — it’s so fresh and I love it!!)
So, if you, like me, are craving some newness, make a little pile of interesting, underutilized pieces in your wardrobe. Sandwich ‘em between familiar pieces and see what happens.
One small change can bring on a whole wave of inspiration.
This week’s intention:
Small changes bring me fresh inspiration.
And there you have it!
When you see this post in your inbox each Sunday, I hope it’s an invitation to, yes, plan some outfits, but more importantly, to start the week with intention. I hope it reminds you that there really are some simple things we can do to make our days feel lighter.

“If something is overwhelming, shrink it.” ← This is my core survival strategy in life since I get whelmed by pretty much everything. Task too dizzying? Day too daunting?
