Good morning!
It’s been a rainy, unexpectedly cool weekend here, and I’ve had more than a few cups of tea today, fully leaning into the coziness.
It’s also been a strange weekend, but I’ll get into that in a second.
First, I want to welcome you to a new series here on Unfancy. I’m calling it Let’s Plan Our Outfits Together, and it’s exactly what it sounds like — a ritual where we take time and greet the week ahead by deciding on our outfits. Kind of like meal prepping, but for your clothes.
I’m a big believer in doing a little planning before the week starts. It’s the simplest, most basic thing, and I’ll be the first to admit I often underestimate it’s value and skip it. But I notice that if I just take a little time to think ahead, my week feels entirely different. More centered. More satisfying.
Oddly, in a post about planning ahead, the thing that’s on my mind most right now is releasing control.
Remember how I said I’d had a strange weekend?
It started on Thursday. I went to an event I’d really looked forward to, but once I got there, I felt self-conscious and unable to connect with people the way I wanted to. And the feeling compounded throughout the weekend, until I felt entirely disconnected from myself — stiff and awkward in settings where I’m usually at ease.
I tried to fix it with good things, like nourishing food, time outside, time with friends, easy walks. All excellent things…that still didn’t “fix” it. The weirdness just hovered over me like a cloud.
Yesterday, I came across a series of questions from Brianna Wiest. Try reading each one with an inhale and exhale in between:
What if I could also accept what I do not want to feel?
What if I could accept what I do not like?
What if I only have to experience these things, not absorb them into my identity?
What if feelings, once felt, release themselves in time?
What if life doesn’t need my constant supervision?
What if there are things I don’t know I don’t know?
What if I’m more okay than I’ve let myself believe?
These questions helped me see that I didn’t have to fix or control to be okay. I could just be.
So, as we’re looking ahead to our weeks and planning outfits, keep it soft and open-handed — an act of tending.
Here are the outfits I’ve put together for this week:
This week’s intention:
I don’t have to fix or control to be okay — I can just be.
And there you have it!
A new weekly series with a little encouragement and a little outfit inspo.
When you see this post in your inbox each Sunday, I hope it’s an invitation to, yes, plan some outfits, but more importantly, to tend to yourself with care. I hope it reminds you that there really are some simple things we can do to make our days feel lighter.
P.S. I would LOVE to hear if you have any suggestions that would make this Sunday ritual more meaningful or helpful to you. Open to cuter title ideas too. 🤭
