Time is a strange concept! We are led to believe it is a fixed point, but is that really the truth? It can be daytime here and nighttime across the Globe 🌎. Travelling by air gives us a sneak peek of how unmanageable time can be. It is possible to arrive somewhere before you set off! So if you’ve ever been to Australia and back from the UK you'll get the logic of this fact.
Yet our day to day lives seem to be governed by time. Time for work and play and sleep, time to eat and drink, to exercise and rest! I know I've spoken on this subject here before, but it has been on my mind the past few days. Oh if only we could capture time ⏲️- we could hold onto precious moments and make them last longer! But could we?
In actual fact, the reverse seems to be true! I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that our most precious moments fly by far too fast! Sitting waiting for a bus, or engaging in a boring chore, meanwhile, can seem to take forever! It is true, then, that time is relative to our experience of it. As a child, waiting for Christmas, or the School Summer holidays, or even the weekend can feel endless. As adults, we begin to adjust to the passage of time and view it with respect - especially as we get older.
We know that we each have the same amount - 24 hours each day - and how we choose to spend that time will colour our experience of it. It amazes me just how much activity some folk can manage to cram into a day! Now I'm retired, I find it hard to believe I ever had time to go to work. Time expands and contracts based upon what we do, and…… the speed we do it.
I've heard many people say that time speeds up as you get older - and whilst my mind tells me that is impossible, my experience tells me otherwise. This Saturday I was at a High School Reunion (see my previous post) and became acutely aware of how fast time had passed for all of us.
Im not sure about you, but I still feel the same inside as I did then - at 16. Looking in the mirror 🪞 assures me that is not the same for my body 🤣. I see an old person, and wonder can it really be me! The thing is, I'm still the same me, with the same hopes, dreams and fears I had years ago. It's just I don't have the same energy or inclination to pursue them like I did before.
Time is actually a concept bound to this Earth 🌎 Space travel has proved this fact. A person travelling at the speed of light ✨️ will age slower in space than here on our planet. Quantum Physics proves that outside Earth, 🌎 time moves differently and so it seems to me that we become ‘caught up’ in time whilst we are here. We only have a short window of Earth time to be and do all we wish - a mere snapshot of the whole of Eternity.
Sound depressing? Actually its only depressing if we measure time by Earth standards. Once we recognise that we are eternal beings and not merely the physical body we see in the mirror - everything changes. So whilst we may be limited in the natural world 🌎 in reality we have unlimited potential. Relaxing into our fully authentic self will bring us the freedom we seek. Every day then, becomes an adventure when we are unattached to a particular outcome.
How we use our time on Earth determines how fulfilled we feel in our lives. Are you living the life you want to live in this moment now? Are you making the most of your gifts? And using them to create a better future both for yourself and those around you?
It is easy to imagine that we are restricted in our desires due to a lack of time - but remember this - some of the most famous people only began ‘finding their niche’ in their latter years! As an example - John B Goodenough was the oldest person ever to recieve a Nobel Prize in 2019 - he was 97! He won the prize for his contribution to chemistry. This should be a salutory reminder that it is never too late to make a difference in the world 🌎- and even more important, to make a difference in your own life.
What have you always dreamed of doing? Do you have any unfinished business? Who do you need to make peace with? What truth are you hiding from yourself? These questions will help you to understand where you are being true to yourself, and where you are living a life that is incongruent with the person you actually are.
We are all a product of our upbringing, but we can also choose to change what no longer aligns with our true desire. Developing self awareness will help us to recognise where we are living our best, and most productive life, and where we are settling for a life of compromise to keep everyone else happy. Which one sounds like you?
I've kept my song choice to the end, and I trust you will enjoy it. Remember that ‘time and tide wait for no one’. I wish you all the most fulfilling and expansive life experience as you travel through time.
Many blessings 🙌 Carole 🙏
