On the bridge over the creek with my get away kit at the little house a few summers ago

In a whirr of unexpected events that evolved in the middle of a rush of days last week, I found out that I’ll be dashing off to a cabin in the mountains soon with a friend. Tall pines, deep quiet, mountain trails, birds, wildflowers. Can you imagine?!

I’m deeply excited.

We’ve brainstormed a menu and scribbled packing lists (journals, hand mending, and Banangrams are included). And you can be sure my get-away kit is coming along, that picnic basket filled with all the non-food essentials to spread a table, make a cup of coffee or tea, and clean up afterward. This is exactly why I have it, to grab and go, whether on a planned picnic at the edge of a pasture at midday, or on overnights in a minimal mountain cabin with a friend.

While I’m scurrying with my packing and preparations, you can trot off and have a read about the get-away kit and how it came to be. Start here, then go here.

Here’s to delightful summer surprises, loves, and get-away kits that make them easier to jump in and enjoy.
