My deep apologies for the lack of weekly newsletters in the latter half of this year but to say things have been utterly heckers is an understatement.
Also in my defence I tried to send a newsletter last week but there was an odd glitch in Substack where I couldn’t enter page breaks. So I got the shits and didn’t write a newsletter. It miraculously fixed itself this week, lucky you.
Work has been off chops - good, just slammed. Finishing up the school year is always tricky with tired kids and holiday planning.
Anyway, hoping next year will be a touch calmer and I can get back to regular weekly newsletters.

Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth. She’s such a solid writer and this one’s just as readable as her others.
Watching
Working Moms, Bridget Jones About a Boy and A Merry Little Ex-Mas. I really enjoyed A Merry Little Ex-mas, it wasn’t even all that cringy. My favourite part was Alicia Silverstone and Melissa Joan Hart looking like beautiful older versions of themselves. I have no idea if either of them have had work done and I don’t care but their faces moved and they looked gorgeous. Refreshing.
Listening
To The Devil You Know about Satanic Panic. It utterly boggles the mind that societally we believe critical thinking is at its lowest point but then you listen to this and wonder where people’s brains were at in the 90s. Oprah just calmly interviewing people who claimed the most outrageous events happened to them, events that would have been extremely easy to fact check and no one did. On that note, we can get some new Satan movies? I feel like we haven’t had a good one in a while.
Eating
Girl dinners. Ben and the kids have been away for a few days so I’ve been having lil’ dinners for one. Frozen steamed dumplings, noodles with a fried egg, avocado on toast. Delish.
Doing
It’s been a busy month with my work Christmas party, a caravan trip and a little jaunt to Canberra to see Kendrick Lamar at Split Milk. I’m trying to sound cool here but I didn’t really know much about Kendrick before I went, I was more interested in seeing Doechii, who was unbelievable.
It rained the entire time, thank god for emergency ponchos. We felt very cool until we had to parent on less than 5 hours sleep. Worth it.
Our big girl turned 7 at the beginning of December and it was such a lovely birthday to celebrate, being her mum this year has been nothing short of delightful. She’s such a kind, curious, clever, funny and interesting kid to be around, I’m so proud of her.
Little reminder to please drive carefully over the holidays - the Aussie death tolls haunt me every year. Stay safe.
Ditto bushfires. Keep connected to your local fire ratings. We have an extreme risk today in the North East of Victoria so stay alert.
Drink plenty of water on hot days, take proper breaks from your screens, read a book, go for charming walks, drink beverages with ice in them and don’t go to social events you don’t want to go do.
Donate blood if you can - Aussies came out in record numbers to support Life Blood in the aftermath of the horrid Bondi attack but they need blood all the time, especially if you’re O neg. Only 7% of the population have O neg blood and it’s used in emergencies because most people can receive it. I’m A pos so my plasma is more useful than my blood but if you’re O neg, you can donate just 4 times a year and your blood will be almost exclusively be used in emergencies. It’s so unbelievably cool.
Also we frequently run out of blood in Australia because we don’t pay our donors and when we do run out, we pay to import US blood who DO pay their donors. That feels a bit yuck right? That’s not the Aussie spirit.
