About ten years ago, I was working for a coach. Part of my job was listening to raw recordings of her podcast and pulling out the central themes for show notes.
One day, while doing exactly that, I heard her say something to a guest that made me stop what I was doing.
“When it comes to coaching, people choose because they sense in the coach that she has healed in herself what they want to heal in themselves.”
I remember thinking, oh wow that makes sense.
And then, almost immediately, I had another thought I never said out loud.
Well then, I guess I’m never coaching.
Because at that point in my life, I didn’t feel like I had healed anything. I was the Queen of Consistency. I knew how to Master the Mundane and build scaffolding where structure is freedom. But healed anything? No.
Fast forward ten years, most specifically the past six months, and I have had an epiphany of sorts.
I am pretty damn resilient.
And that realization came from being in a very uncomfortable season of life that demanded more resilience than I ever expected to need.
The past six months have been challenging in very real ways (a job restructuring, my dog having seizures, launching a Kidult), the kind of things that pile up and do not wait for the right time.
And in the middle of all of that, I found myself paying attention to how I was getting through it.
Somewhere along the way, I had built resilience, not from theory, but from years of practicing consistency, returning and recalibrating when life got hard. And over time I realized there was something happening underneath the surface, in my nervous system, in my habits, and in the way I responded to stress.
That realization forced me to rethink resilience. I had understood it behaviorally for years.
The past six months made it personal.
Carol Donahoe and I have worked together for over seven years. Our work fits in a way that makes this conversation stronger. She brings deep experience in resilience, especially in understanding how the nervous system responds to stress and change, and I bring the lens of consistency.
So we’ve built a webinar around all of this. Around Resilience, Redefined. A one-hour conversation where we break down what resilience actually looks like in real life and how consistency becomes the mechanism that helps us return.
Carol and I are partnering on this because, like all good relationships, together we are greater than the sum of our parts.
We would love for you to join us.
The webinar is free.
Details coming soon.
